1. | Leo Bascomb Maund was born on 31 Jan 1895 in Hemphill, Sabine County, Texas (son of Judge Henry Clay Maund and Pattie Emma Goodloe); died on 18 Jul 1963 in Beaumont, Jefferson County, Texas; was buried in Knupple Cemetery, Silsbee, Hardin County, Texas. Notes:
When he registered for the World War I draft, he was a saw mill laborer in Hemphill, Texas, reporting that this was also where he was born, on 31 Jan 1895. This is the closest date to the 1900 census (which reported Jan 1894), and was filled out by Leo himself, so is assumed to be accurate. Both his tombstone and death certificate show him as being born later, 1897 and 1899 respectively. He was married and supporting his wife, and described as tall, slender, and with brown eyes and black hair. His Texas Death certificate showed that he worked as a collector at a loan company. He was married at the time of his death, the informant being Mrs. Hazel Maund.
Family/Spouse: Hazel Simmons. Hazel was born on 5 Oct 1906; died on 20 Mar 1987; was buried in Knupple Cemetery, Silsbee, Hardin County, Texas. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

2. | Judge Henry Clay Maund was born on 21 Apr 1844 in Georgia (son of William Wallace Maund and Caroline Young); died on 16 Aug 1920 in Sabine County, Texas; was buried in Hemphill City Cemetery, Hemphill, Sabine County, Texas. Notes:
In a family history prepared by his niece, Katherine Allen Tirado, he was instead shown as being born on April 21, 1842 in Albany, Georgia.
White and Toole show him as a son of Rev. William Maund. "The Maund brothers, Hardie, Wm, and Matt, came to America and also rec'd Crown Grants of land in Va. Rev. Wm. Maund (the son of William) and his wife Angelina moved to Alabama then to Jasper County, Texas. He organized and was pastor of the first Baptist Church in Jasper."
They further note that he "Became active in politics and served Sabine County in the State Legislature for a number of years. He was Sabine County Judge for 17 years and postmaster of Sabinetown for 10 years."
In her annontated transcription of the Hemphill City Cemetery, Kay Parker McCary shows, in error, that he was a son of William L. and Susan J. Maund. William L. Maund was actually his older half brother, and Susan Josephine Cowart Maund his sister-in-law.
On his FindAGrave memorial, created by A. Liem, Henry Clay Maund is shown as a "Son of Rev. William W Maund and Caroline Kirksey [nee Young]. Half-brother of William Lott Maund, first Mayor of Center, Shelby Co, Texas." This corresponds with census records.

?.at Sabinetown, south, in which?loyal and devoted member until God called her home.
"Miss Pattie" as she was fondly called lived a life of love and service exemplifying the life of our Lord. "Who went about doing good, ministering to the sick and needy---obeying the injunctions of scripture where we are told, that pure and undefiled religion before God the Father is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in time of their afflictions and to keep ones self unspotted from the world and her entire life was lived in harmony with this scripture and its teachings. All her life was thusly lived in Sabine County.
The above named relatives and a host of life long friends mourn her going.
"Servant of God, well done, Thy glorious warfare is past, The battle is fought, the victory won ___And thou are crowned at last."
The funeral was conducted from the First Methodist Church, the pastor officiating. Interment was made in the Hemphill cemetery.

This compilation will refute many of the assertions found in a book by Emily Griffin Roberts of Terrell, Texas - "Ancestral Study of Four Families, Roberts, Griffin, Cartwright & Simpson". (1937) Mrs. Roberts believed that one, William Roberts was the father of the brothers who settled in Spanish West Florida before 1810 which is incorrect as George Roberts Sr. who made his will in 1805, was their father. Her list of brothers and sisters is also found to be incorrect. The above will had not been discovered at the time she made these assertions.[4]

Sabine County, Texas Affidavit of B. R. Payne, sworn on August 25, 1927 and witnessed by Edna Whitehead, Notary Public. B. R. Payne was age 74 at that time, and a livelong resident of Sabine County, living about two miles south of Geneva. He was also a grandson of William Roberts "who once owned a league of land lying partly in Sabine and partly in San Augustine Counties, near the town of Tebo. From family history I understand that William Roberts died about 1836, in San Augustine County. His wife was Sarah Roberts, my grandmother. After my Grandfather's death my Grandmother married a man by the name of Tanner who lived with her a few years and then, I understand, abandoned her. My Grandmother and Tanner had no children. So far as I know, my grandfather William Roberts was never married but the once and my Grandmother was married only twice as set out above. My Grandmother, Sarah Roberts, died before I can remember, sometime before the Civil War." At the end of his affidavit, he stated his information was given partly by actual knowledge and the remainder from family history.
He went on to state that "The children of William Roberts and his wife, Sarah, were four in number:
1) Talitha Stevenson, who married James Stevenson.
2) Neriza Goodloe, who married Dr. R.K. Goodloe.
3) Urza Ann Payne, who married B. W. Payne, my father.
