4. | Gottlieb Girmus was born on 18 Nov 1847 in Praha, Bohemia; died on 11 Nov 1917 in Fillmore County, Nebraska; was buried in Bohemian Brethren Cemetery (AKA Cesky Bratri Cemetery), Fillmore County, Nebraska. Notes:
Also known as Bohumil.
The son of Barbara BARTOS and Joseph GIRMUS, Gottlieb was born in Prague, Bohemia in 1847, and immigrated to the United States in 1851 with his (father and) brother Joseph. His father remarried Katharine WAGWADUKE and had eleven additional children. The family lived in New York, and later moved to Newark, New Jersey. Gottlieb worked as a machine shop operator. The Girmus family later settled in Saginaw, Michigan. Here Gottlieb enlisted in the 16th Regiment, Company D, Michigan on March 24, 1864. He was described as being small in stature, five feet one inch tall, with a fair complexion, blue eyes, light hair, occupation laborer. He served for approximately 11 months, but became ill in March and April 1865 and was mustered out of the service due to his health. He was discharged in May 1865.
Gottlieb moved to Nebraska in 1868, and filed a homestead claim at the Beatrice Land Office on April 26, 1869. His land was approximately 150 acres in Section 34 of Liberty Township in Fillmore County.
Gottlieb was apparently industrious and entrepreneurial in spirit. The local paper noted he built to town coal shed, served as assessor for Glengary Township, purchased a well auger as a joint venture with Vit Laun, and served as village clerk. When he was in his early sixties, he moved to Chugwater, Wyoming to set up a homestead in that state. (Milligan, 276).

Katherine (daughter of Frank Sopr and Veronika Urban) was born on 25 Nov 1853 in Praha, Bohemia; died on 20 Mar 1904; was buried in Bohemian Brethren Cemetery (AKA Cesky Bratri Cemetery), Fillmore County, Nebraska.
