  1. 6.  Peter Foy was born about 1745 in Duplin County, North Carolina; died on 1 Mar 1782.

    Notes:

Our family tradition holds that Peter FOY (1745 - 1 March 1782) and Hamutal MOORE (1750 - 1810) were married in Wilmington, New Hanover County, NC, in 1769, but I cannot prove this tradition. In 1769 Peter received a Royal Land Grant from George III for 100 acres surrounded on all sides by vacant land in what was then in Colleton County SC. Peter fought in a mounted SC Militia Company late in the Revolution and was killed at Carter's House/Cloud Creek on 1 March 1782, massacred by "Bloody Bill" Cunningham's Tory Raiders. Hamutal collected Peter's back pay and later married William Wilson.

Peter married Hamutal Moore. Hamutal was born about 1750; died about 1810. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 7.  Hamutal Moore was born about 1750; died about 1810.

    Notes:

Hamutal - kinsman of the dew, the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah, wife of King Josiah, and mother of King Jehoahaz (2 Kings 23:31), also of king Zedekiah (2 Kings 24:18). URL: http://www.trellis.net/users/freshwaters/ebd/List-h.htm The name is sometimes is spelled as Hamital, depending on which Bible translation you use.

However, on 30 July 1785, Hamutal Moore, the widow of Peter Foy signed her name, in her own adult hand, unmistakably as "Hamutal Foy," and not as "Hamital," on the receipt to a petition to the Commissioners of the State of South Carolina, requesting outstanding military pay and interest still due to her deceased husband. It looks to me as if the unpaid salary was 85 Pounds, and as if the accrued interest was 12 Pounds, 2 Shillings, and 10 Pence.

WILL of Hamutal (nee Moore, m. 1st Foy, m. 2d) WILSON. Dated 22 October 1806 and Probated on 20 April 1810. Daughters: Martha Hill, Elizabeth Gains, Hamutal Foy, Rebecca Oharron (O'Hara), Sally House [Howze], Louisa Foy. Sons: James Foy, William Foy, Frederick Foy, Benedict Bourgeon. Step-sons: Joab and Jeremiah Wilson. Executors: Sons-in-Law James House [Howze] and James Oharron (O'Hara). Witnesses: John Pope, Louis Mobley, Patrick Ardogh. Page 276 of Edgefield Co., SC, Will Book. Cited in Abstracts of Wills, Edgefield Co., SC. Published by Delwyn Associates, Atlanta, GA, 1973, page 39.

Sally (sometimes "Salley") Wilson, b. 1790 in Edgefield District, SC, was the daughter of Hamutal Moore FOY and Hamutal's second husband, William Wilson. Although the Will names Sally's husband as James HOUSE, I have found the most frequent spelling to be James HOWZE. Other members of this family also seem to have continued the spelling as HOWZE.
