    Funeral service: 10 a.m. 1/19 at Farmer & Son Funeral Home, Kotas Chapel. Visitation: 1-8 p.m., family present 5-8 p.m., at the funeral home. Memorials to the family. Burial: Bohemian National Cemetery, Milligan.

    Funeral services for Lillian will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at the Farmer & Son Funeral Home - Kotas Chapel in Milligan, Nebraska. Pastor Timothy Bullock will officiate the service. Burial will follow the funeral services in the Bohemian National Cemetery, Milligan, Nebraska.

    Visitation will be held on Friday, January 18, 2013 from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family present from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Farmer & Son Funeral Home - Kotas Chapel in Milligan.

    Memorials are directed to the family.

    Lillian Maxine Korbelik was born to Edward Joseph Strauss and Sophia Kathryn (Pfingsten) Strauss on September 2, 1921, at Ohiowa, Nebraska, and passed away on January 17, 2013 at Midlands Hospital in Papillion, Nebraska at the age of 91 years, 4 months and 15 days. She was one of three children in the family.

    Lillian attended school District 43, completing the 8th grade. She was baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church in Ohiowa. Growing up, she often helped neighbors by cooking and cleaning for them. She married her childhood neighbor and family friend, Joseph Korbelik of Milligan, Nebraska on October 24, 1940. They enjoyed 59 years of marriage. Together they lived on various farms northeast of Ohiowa and had two children, Shirley and Gary. Lillian enjoyed raising chickens, ducks, and geese on the farm and helping Joe with the livestock and farming. She was a hard-working woman who enjoyed taking care of her family and friends. Lillian and Joe moved into Ohiowa in 1978, where they enjoyed the friendship of various neighbors and visits from their children and grandchildren. In 2005, Lillian moved to Geneva to enjoy the conveniences that the city had to offer.

    Lillian was an avid baker and talented cook. She was widely known for her famous kolaches, which she would sell at the Farmer's Market in Geneva. According to her records, she made 23,397 kolaches between 1992-1999! Even though she was diabetic, she always enjoyed her sweets-especially ice cream. She also enjoyed crocheting, cross-stitching, canning, gardening, and most of all, polka dancing. Lillian could often be caught tapping her toe to polka music in the kitchen. She never missed the Big Joe Polka Show on Saturday nights. Lillian's last polka dance was on her 90th birthday party in Millligan, dancing to the music of the Moonliter's-Randy Korbelik's polka band.
    Lillian was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Sophia Strauss; her brother, Earl Strauss; husband, Joseph Henry Korbelik; and granddaughter, Jamie Lea Korbelik-Gibson.

    She is survived by her sister, Birdeen Grote of Harvard; daughter, Shirley Simmonds and husband Jim of Papillion; son, Gary Korbelik and wife Daria of Grand Island; grandchildren, Chad Gernstein of Naples, Florida; Brandon Korbelik of Geneva; Wendy Grojean of Omaha; Jessica Korbelik of Lincoln; Dawn Darrell of Omaha; Brett Simmonds of Omaha; and 13 great-grandchildren.

    Lillian married Joseph Henry Korbelik about 1940. Joseph (son of Joseph Alfred Korbelik, Jr. and Frances Stejskal) was born on 1 Jul 1917 in Milligan, Fillmore County, Nebraska; died on 15 Feb 1999 in Lincoln, Lancaster County, Nebraska. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Married:
    After their marriage, they lived on a farm in Ohiowa. In 1950, they moved to the Ed JANOUSEK farm west of Milligan. Their two children, Shirley and Glenn were born there. Shirley BRDICKA, who lives in Papillion, is a legal secretary. She has two children, Chad (Ninth grade) and Wendy (Second Grade). Gary KORBELIK was a diesel mechanic for seven years in Geneva, and then went into farming. He has three children: Jamie (Fifth Grade), Brandon (Fourth Grade), and Jessica (age seven, in the Second Grade). (Milligan, p 346).
