Per the History "Refugio" by Hobart Huson, p.595 "Mrs. Jane P.O'Connor conducted a private school at Lamar in 1862....families of means sent their children their to board...(the Bass children were first on the list of those who attended -- children of Frances and Richard Bass, she was the daughter of Frances Blackburn Means and Congressman William Addision Means.)
