Kay Parker McCary, in her annotated transcription of the Hemphill City Cemetery, notes he was a Mason, and that he shared a double marker with Irene Speights.

Enrolled in the District 10 School in Sabine County in 1854. Sharon Speights Varney quotes Virgie Collier Speights as writing that when Jerusha changed religions, joining the Campbellites (forerunner of the Church of Christ), whe was denounced by family and friends as "a heathen" and "no longer a Christian."
