    The daughter of Civil War soldier Allen Newton White, a scout of the Union Army who was captured by the Rebels in the Cumberland Gap on 22 February 1864, he spent three months in the Confederate Libby Prison for officers in Richmond, Virginia and survived six months in captivity at the infamous Andersonville Prison.
