"of Woodville, passed away at St. Elizabeth Hospital. Born (to) Lewis and "Lottie" Lula Charlotte Harvery (sic) RIGSBY, he lived in Beaumont before moving to Woodville 22 year ago. He was a retired supervisor with Texaco, Inc. (35 years)...active in Boy Scouts...Ivanhoe Men's Club....elder in Christian Church....member of Woodville UMC.

Survivors: wife of 56 years, Gerladine (sic) WHITE Rigsby..sons, Michael (wife Dawn) of Nacogdoches, Kyle (wife Julie) of Lumberton, daughter Kathleen BEHRMAN (husband C. Thomas) of Houston, brothers Joe W. of Cleburne, Billy E. of Bandera, Larry F. of Midlothian; four grandsons, and five granddaughters.

1. Allen Rigsby, b ca 1770, NC m. Margaret Johnson, b ca 1771 in NC of Irish descent. They moved to Randolph Co, Georgia. 2. John Lewis Rigsby b Nov 2, 1802, d Jul 26, 1892, m Mary Foster, Feb 1, 1816, d May 3, 1893. 3. Monroe Rigsby m. Mildred Crenshaw. 4. Lewis Johnson Rigsby b Dec 17, 1866, d Feb 18, 1940, m Helen Margaret Haralson, b Feb 19, 1868, d Oct 6, 1952. Her parents were James Carrol Haralson and Elyza Amanda Delano, dtr. of Oliver and Helen Mott Delano, said to be related to the N.Y. Delanos. Sam Houston was a guest at their wedding.

On the 1860, 1870 census, his name is shown as Edwin. In 1880, it is shown as Edward.

Mentioned in the Thursday, March 4, 2004 Harry Noble weekly column in the San Augustine Tribune, titled "HARD TIMES: Ayish Bayou at Chinquapin." Edward was a witness in the San Augustine District court case "the State of Texas vs. Ben Albritton" in which Ben Albritton was alleged to have shot three hogs belonging to the widow Mary Harvey

Edward married Lucy Harvey on 16 Oct 1877 in San Augustine County, Texas. Lucy (daughter of Stephen Prather Harvey and Francis Ann Hill) was born on 5 Jan 1858 in Texas; died on 26 May 1926. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

In SABINE COUNTY GENEALOGICAL RECORDS, pps 42-45, it is stated that Lucy and Edward Harvey, who married in 1877, were cousins. Their son, Mack Harvey, wrote, "It is a well known fact that our great-grandfathers were brothers." In one place, he mentions "John" as being one of his great-grandfathers."
