She was born April 21, 1954 and was the daughter of Frank and Avis (McLemore) Black.

She was a 1972 graduate of Loogootee High School and was also a graduate of the Vincennes School of Practical Nursing. She was employed at the Washington Nursing Center in Washington, IN.

She was a member of the Loogootee Christian Church.

She died at approximately 10:40 p.m. October 10, 1973 in a two-car accident on SR 54 west of Bloomfield. The driver of the other vehicle crossed the center line and was drunk at the time of the accident. Her fiance who was also in the car was not killed in the accident.

He was born in Martin County, the son of James and Mary (Young) Black. He was a retired painter.

He was a member and trustee of the Loogootee Christian Church and a director of the Goodwill Cemetery Association as well as being active in many community affairs.

On September 17, 1933 he married Avis McLemore.

On December 15, 1977 he died at 1:10 p.m. after collapsing suddenly at the home of a neighbor.

One sister still lived, Mrs. Una Born, Naperville, IL. A daughter, Lynn, died in 1973 and two brothers and one sister had previously died.

Frank married Avis M. McLemore on 17 Sep 1933. Avis (daughter of Albert Owen McLemore and Jennie Mae Herrin) was born on 13 Nov 1911 in Indiana; died on 13 Apr 1998 in Loogootee, Martin County, Indiana; was buried in Goodwill Cemetery, Loogootee, Martin County, Indiana. She was born on November 13, 1911, in Washington, IN. Her parents were Albert and Jennie Mae (Herrin) McLemore.

She married Frank Black on September 17, 1933.

She was retired from employment with the Loogootee School Corporation as a cook. She was a member of the Loogootee Christian Church.

She died at 7:45 p.m. on April 13, 1998, at the Loogootee Nursing Home.

Survivors included two half-sisters, Betty Jerger, of Jasper, IN and Joyce Foregash, of Pennsylvania, and two half-brothers, Jim McLemore, of Pennsylvania, and Bill McLemore, of Ohio.

She was preceeded in death by a daughter, Lynn, who died in 1973, her husband, Frank, who died in 1977, and three half-sisters.

Notes:

When he registered for the draft during World War I in 1918 in Daviess County, Indiana. He was tall, of medium build, and had blue eyes and brown hair.
