Funeral services for Herbert V. "Vince" Woods, Jr., 55, of Hudson, will be held Thursday, May 19, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. at Lufkin First Assembly with Bro. Lloyd Thurman officiating. Graveside services will be at Liberty Springs Cemetery, Milam, Texas at 3:30 p.m.
Vince was born January 17, 1961 in San Augustine, the son of Herbert V. Woods, Sr. & Betty Frances Nichols, and died Sunday, May 15, 2016 in Lufkin.
He loved his wife, his kids, and playing golf.
Mr. Woods is survived by his wife of 25 years, Sheila Woods; daughter, Hannah Woods; son, Reece Woods; daughter, Haylee Woods; and son, Hayden Woods, all of Hudson; sister, Karen Peterson of Lufkin; sister & brother-in-law, Amber & Randy Ellison of Rosevine; sister & brother-in-law, Cindi & Ronnie Caston of San Augustine; father-in-law & mother-in-law, Millard & Johnnie Smith of Milam; brother-in-law & sister-in-law, Randy & Becky Smith of Pineland; brother-in-law & sister-in-law, Rusty & Angie Fuller of Lufkin; and numerous nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Ronnie Peterson.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Butler, Eddie Edds, John Toole, Jeff Boyd, Mike Bridges, Charles Sharp, and Scott Christopher.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin.
Memorials may be made to the Liberty Springs Cemetery Association, 2000 Reeves Rd., Milam, TX 75959.

Herbert V. Woods, 68, of San Augustine died Monday, September 11, 1995, at his residence on Congress Street.
He was born Nov. 18, 1926, in San Augustine County and was a longtime area resident. Woods, a U. S. Army veteran of World War II, was a member of the First Baptist Church and a staking engineer with the Deep East Texas Electric Co-op.
Survivors: wife, Frances Nichols Woods of San Augustine; three daughters, Karen Woods of Lufkin, Amber Ellison of Rosevine, and Cindi Caston of San Augustine; a son, Vince Woods of Lufkin; his mother, Ellie Birdwell Woods of San Augustine; two sisters, Blanche Murray of San Augustine and Bobbie Loukas of Pt. Arthur; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services are set for 10 a.m. today (Wednesday) at First Baptist Church in San Augustine with the pastor, Bro. Jim Moss, officiating. Interment will follow at Liberty Hill Memorial Gardens.
Services are being handled by Wyman Roberts Funeral Chapel in San Augustine.

Mrs. Johnnie Mae Smith, 79, of Milam died Friday, March 31, 2017 at CHI Memorial Hospital, Lufkin, TX. after a brief illness. Johnnie was born April 30, 1937 in Hemphill, TX. to Charles Conway (Connie) Brown White and Carter Arnold White and resided in Sabine County throughout her life. She was a housewife, mother and lifelong member of Hemphill Church of God. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Millard Smith; son, Randy Smith and wife Becky of Strickland Crossing; daughters Sheila Woods of Hudson and Angie Fuller and husband Rusty of Lufkin, two sisters, Betty Webb of Center and Linda Horton of Hemphill; grandchildren Justin Smith and wife Cassie, Kaitlyn Smith, Benjamin Smith; Hannah Woods, Reece Woods, Haylee Woods, Hayden Woods; Samantha McElroy and husband Will, Demi Fuller and Chase Fuller. She was preceded in death by her sister Billie Ruth Ferguson and son-in-law Vince Woods. Mrs. Smith is also survived by brothers in law Lamar Smith and wife Ruth, Tommy Smith and wife Juanita, Morris Shofner; sisters in law Janice Hughes and Brenda Elliott. Mrs. Smith leaves behind a large number of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 PM, Monday evening at Starr Funeral Home with the funeral service at 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 4, in the Starr Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Liberty Springs Cemetery. Funeral services for Hamp W. Woods, 77, of San Augustine were held Saturday at Little Flock Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Mr. Woods died at 10:a.m. Thursday at his home. He was a lifelong resident of San Augustine County and was the son of the late Isiah Woods and Alice Herring Woods, pioneer residents of the county. Conducting services were Bro. Wesley McBride, Bro. Ted Jacks and Rev. Noel Hammock. Pallbearers were Carlo Birdwell, Kennon Birdwell, T. L. Bobbitt, Winfred Birdwell, Keith Fuller, Earlton Wright and Dewise Wright. Honorary pallbearers were Alton Wright, John Bobbitt, Tommy Fuller and Wayne Fuller. Survivors include his wife Ellie Woods of San Augustine; two daughters, Blanche Murray of San Augustine and Bobbie Loukas of Port Arthur; a son, Herbert Woods of San Augustine; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The name Ellie also appears on the birth record of her daughter, Bobine. Therefore it appears she was actually named Ellie Blanche, in honor of her mother.

Ellie Mae Birdwell Woods, 92, of San Augustine died Monday, March 30, 1998 at Colonial Pines Nursing Home in San Augustine. Funeral services were held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, April 1, 1998 at Little Flock Baptist Church in San Augustine with burial at Little Flock Cemetery under the direction of Wyman Robert Funeral Home in San Augustine. Services were conducted by Bro. Cliff Durham and Bro. R. C. Butler. She was a lifelong resident of San Augustine County and a member of the Baptist Church. She was the wife of the late Hamp Woods. Survivors include daughters Alice Blanche Murray of San Augustine and Bobbie Loukas of Port Arthur; and a daugher-in-law, Frances N. Woods, San Augustine; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were R. C. Butler, Don Butler, Derrell Gardner, Jack Brown, Jimmy Brown, Winfred Birdwell and Tucker Dickerson.

Reece Thomas Smith, 97, died Wednesday, Dec. 28 (sic), 2010, in his home near Milam, after an illness.
Smith was born in Time to June and Vessie Brittain Smith. He retired from Graver Tank and Oil and was a farmer/rancer all his life. He was a member of the Pendleton Assembly of God in Pendleton, LA.
He is survived by son, Millard Smith and his wife, Johnnie of Milam, Lamar Smith and his wife Ruth of Patroon, and Tommy Smith and his wife Juanita of Sam Rayburn; daughters, Janice Hughes of Center and Brenda Elliott of Lufkin; sister, Zelma Blasingame of Garland; son-in-law, Morris Shofner of Houston; 13 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, Jan. 1, 2011, in the Starr Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in the Liberty Springs Cemetery near Milam.
Memorials may be made to Hospice in the Pines, 116 South Raguet, Lufkin, TX 75904; Pendleton Assembly of God Church, 14152 Texas Highway, Many, LA 71499; or Liberty Springs Cemetery Fund, 2009 Reeves Road, Milam TX 75959.

Services for Mrs. Ida Baldree SMITH, 89, were held at 2:00 pm Sunday, January 19, 2003, at Starr Funeral Home Chapel, Hemphill, with Rev. Daniel Davis officiating. Interment followed in Liberty Springs, Sabine County.
Mrs. Smith died Friday morning, January 17, 2003 at her daughter's residence in Lufkin after a lenghty illness. She was born April 27, 1913, in Sabine County to Ella GRAY and Jim BALDREE. She resided in Milam most of her life.
She was a devoted homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother. Mrs. Smith was an avid gardener and took pride in her flowers and vegetables. She was a member of Pendleton Assembly of God Church, Pendleton, La.
She is survived by her husband of seventy years, Reece SMITH; daughters and son-in-laws, Janice and O.B. HUGHES of Center, Jeanell and Morris SHOFNER of Houston, and Brenda ELLIOT of Lufkin; sons and daughters-in-law Mildard and Johnnie SMITH of Pineland, Lamar and Ruth SMITH of Patroon, Tommy and Juanita SMITH of Pineland; sisters, Mrs. Mabel FRENCH of Anahuac and Mrs. Jimmie KNIGHT of Houston; 15 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; caregivers, Martha WILLIAMS, Debbie WALKER and Debbie GREEN; and her longtime housekeeper, Mary WILLIAMS.
Pallbearers were grandsons; Mickey SMITH, Randy SMITH, Paul SMITH, Steve SMITH, Billy HUGHES and Danny HUGHES.

Ninety-Eighth Birthday
Ms. Connie White celebrated her ninety-eighth birthday last Sunday with her family and friends. Ms. White turned 98 on April 2. She would like to thank everyone for the cards, beautiful plants, and especially al the friends that came by to visit and share this special time with her. She had one person come all the way from Fort Smith, Arkansas just to help her celebrated. Her four daughters, are Linda Horton of Hemphill, Billy Ruth Ferguson of Pineland, Betty Webb of Center and Johnnie Mae Smith of Milam . She has nine children and 19 great-grandchildren. Grandchildren at her celebration included Darren Webb, Shelia Woods, Angie Fuller, Robert Ferguson, Randy Smith, Kenneth Ferguson, Barry Webb and Eric Williams.

Connie White, 101, died Friday evening in the Hemphill Care Center. Ms. Connie was born in Vivian, LA, to John Henry and Margaret Spradley Brown. She moved to Hemphill 90 years ago where she was a homemaker and a seamstress. Ms. Connie's pride and joy was her flower garden which she maintained by herself until she was ninety-six years old. She was a member of the First Church of God in Hemphill, TX.
She is survived by three daughters; Johnnie Smith and her husband Millard of Milam, Betty Webb and her husband Steve of Center, and Linda Horton and her husband Joe of Hemphill, nine grand children, eighteen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter Billie Ruth Ferguson.
Visitation will be from 4:30PM until 9:00PM, Sunday, August 26, 2012 in the Starr Funeral Home, 510 Starr St., Hemphill, TX. Funeral services will be at 4:00PM, Monday, August 27, 2012, in the Starr Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Springhill Cemetery near Hemphill.
