    John David McLemore, a descendant, emailed in July 2010 that "Britain Sanders McLemore Sr. was a pastor at several Methodist churches in Memphis during his career. He was born 2/28/1859 and died 9/11/1934. "

    Barksdale family history and genealogy (with collateral lines), p. 406, states that "He was ed. at Univ. of Va.; practiced law for 12 years; entered ministry of Methodist Chruch. They had issue of eleven children, b. in Tenn. "

She is asking because her third great grandmother was one of them and with whom he fathered several children who are her direct ancestors. Her ancestors name was Amanda, and Sugars purchased her sometime around the mid to late 1840s in Memphis and took her to Brownsville. She remained in his household until around 1856 when she was then gifted to his daughter Nancy (Nannie) Dabney McLemore after she married Thomas Cole.
