    She can be found on the 1930 Federal Census in Schenectady, New York, and shown as 9 months old (census enumeration date was April 18, 1930, making her born around July or August 1929). On this census, she was listed as a daughter of Leon Getz, age 32, born in Russia of Russian parents, mother tongue listed as Jewish, year of emigration ca 1887, and shown as a proprietor of a meat market. His wife was 30 year old Hattie F Getz, was born in New York, as was her father, with a mother born in Austria. Arlene was the only child present in the home. The World War I draft registration cards shown he was born January 1, 1898, and was a student living in Schenectady when he registered for the draft on September 12, 1918, his nearest relative was his mother, Rose Getz, living with him at 842 Lincoln in Schenectady. Leon died in November 1983 in Miami, Florida

    Notes:

    In 1910, Charles and Rosie, along with sons Leo and Albert, were living on Carrie Street in Schenectady, New York. He was working as a Tailor at a tailor shop. Both parents were shown as born in Russia, as was their eldest son, Leo, and their mother tongue was listed as Yiddish. The date of immigration for all three was 1902, and Charles was shown as a naturalized citizen.This was the same occupation shown in 1920 and 1930, as he and his family remainted in Schenectady. The 1930 census has Russia crossed out as place of birth, and instead showsn Bulstark, Poland.*

    Charles's date of emigration was shown as 1902, and Rose's as 1904. In 1940 Charles was widowed, and living with his son and daughter-in-law, Albert and Grace, in Schenectady. His place of birth was instead listed as Poland.

    *Belostock, Russia is the same city as Bialystok, Poland (called Byalistock in yiddish), and is the largest city on northeastern Poland. It is 108.8 miles NE of Warsaw. At the end of the nineteenth century, the majority of the city's population was Jewish. According to Russian census of 1897, out of the total population of 66,000, Jews constituted 41,900 (so around 63% percent).[19] This heritage can be seen on the Jewish Heritage Trail in Bialystok.[20] The Bialystok pogrom occurred between 1896 and 1906 in the city. During the pogrom between 81 and 88 people were killed, and about 80 people were wounded

    The 1910 U.S. Passport application for Isidor Friedman, wife Lena, and son Samuel, born in Schenectedy lists Isaac's place of birth as Ungwar, Hungary on 14 Aug 1858, and further stated he emigrated to the US sailing on board the Vrinar from Breman on or about 15 July 1893, residing for 17 years in city of Schenectedy. He was 5'3 inches tall, with a high forehead, brown eyes, straight nose, full mouth, short chin, dark hair and auburn complextion.

    The 1910 Schenectady County, NY Census shows Isadore and Lena had been married for 28 years, making the year of their marriage ca 1882.This was shown as the first marriage for them both. Lena was shown as having given birth to 16 children in total, only 12 of them still living in 1910.

    Isaac, Lena, and the four eldest children in their home at the time of the 1910 census were all shown as born in Hungary, with their native tongue being German. Isaac immigrated in 1892, with his wife and four oldest children arriving four years later, in 1896. Isaac and son William were both shown as naturalized citizens by 1910.

    Isaac was a merchant of meats, son William was a butcher, and daughter Sadie worked as a bookeeper at the market. Everyone in the family was shown as speaking English.

    At the time of the 1920 federal census, Lena was widowed, and living on Sowden Avenue, Schenectady, with 8 of her children. Son Arthur was a butcher, daughters Sadie and Hattie were working as bookkeepers, and daughter Rosie a cashier at their meat market. In 1930, she and four of her younger children could still be found in Schenectady. All four children worked at the market in the office.
