Albert Getz

Notes:

In 1930, Albert was living with his parents and younger sister in Schenectady, and working as a millwright in a refrigerator department.

At the time of the 1940 census, Albert was married, and working as an electrical millright in Schenectady, New York. He had finished two years of High School. His wife, Grace, had completed four years. They were sharing their home with this father, Charles, age 69 and widowed, and shown as born in Poland.

The Social Security Death Index shows his last residence was Schenetady, New York.

Albert married Grace E. Weisheit on 9 Feb 1940 in Schenectady County, New York. Grace was born on 13 Feb 1910 in New York; died on 12 Jul 1991 in Dekalb County, Georgia. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Notes:

In 1910, Charles and Rosie, along with sons Leo and Albert, were living on Carrie Street in Schenectady, New York. He was working as a Tailor at a tailor shop. Both parents were shown as born in Russia, as was their eldest son, Leo, and their mother tongue was listed as Yiddish. The date of immigration for all three was 1902, and Charles was shown as a naturalized citizen.This was the same occupation shown in 1920 and 1930, as he and his family remainted in Schenectady. The 1930 census has Russia crossed out as place of birth, and instead showsn Bulstark, Poland.*

Charles's date of emigration was shown as 1902, and Rose's as 1904. In 1940 Charles was widowed, and living with his son and daughter-in-law, Albert and Grace, in Schenectady. His place of birth was instead listed as Poland.

*Belostock, Russia is the same city as Bialystok, Poland (called Byalistock in yiddish), and is the largest city on northeastern Poland. It is 108.8 miles NE of Warsaw. At the end of the nineteenth century, the majority of the city's population was Jewish. According to Russian census of 1897, out of the total population of 66,000, Jews constituted 41,900 (so around 63% percent).[19] This heritage can be seen on the Jewish Heritage Trail in Bialystok.[20] The Bialystok pogrom occurred between 1896 and 1906 in the city. During the pogrom between 81 and 88 people were killed, and about 80 people were wounded

Charles married Rose Gurkin. Rose was born about 1876 in Belostok, Grodno Gubernia, Russian Empire; died about 1938 in Schenectady County, New York; was buried in Workmens Circle Cemetery, Rotterdam, Schenectady County, New York. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

The Vermont Marriage License of her daughter, Jeanetter Getz to Efrem Bernard Neisuler shows that she was a daughter of Charles GETZ and Rose GURKIN.
