    NEWTON, Iowa -- Mary Ellen (Cada) Wadzinski, 56, of Newton, Iowa, formerly of Schuyler, passed away at home on Saturday, April 12, 2014, after a long battle with kidney cancer.

    A service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 17, 2014, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Schuyler. A time of visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. with a rosary service beginning at 10:15 a.m.

    Memorials may be designated in Mary's name in the forms of Mass offerings or to the Sacred Heart Choir or the Newton Community Theatre and may be left at the church or at Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton, Iowa.

    Mary was born October 26, 1957, to Joseph D. and Roseann (Divis) Cada, in Schuyler. She attended Schuyler area schools and graduated from Schuyler High School's class of 1976. Mary attended Mt. Marty College in Yankton, S.D., and Nebraska Methodist School of Nursing, in Omaha, graduating as RN in 1980.

    On July 26, 1980, Mary married Robert Wadzinski at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Schuyler. They lived in Dodge; Pinconning, Mich.; Schuyler; Clovis, N.M.; Elkhorn; and Newton, Iowa. Mary started her nursing career as a "candy striper" and worked as a registered nurse at the hospital in Schuyler. Mary last worked at Park Centre in Newton for 7-1/2 years as Assisted Living Nurse. She loved caring for the elderly and was very fond of her residents.

    Mary was blessed with musical talent and singing was her passion. She had taken six years of voice lessons including opera at Wayne State College in Wayne. Mary's voice contributed to many church and community choirs wherever she lived. She was a soloist singing for weddings and funerals. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and choir. Mary was also in musical productions at Newton Community Theater. Her favorite production was "Hot Flashes." Mary felt the church members, choir and theater cast members were like family.

    Mary is survived by husband, Robert; four children, Mary Kathryn "Katie," Kristine, Ross, and Reid, of Newton; three grandchildren, Asher, Annah, and Allison; parents, Joe and Roseann Cada, of Schuyler; sister, Carolyn (John) Peers, of Omaha; Several brothers and sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews.

    Mary was preceded in death by her grandparents; and an uncle.

    Roseann was born January 23, 1934, in Schuyler, to Zikmund and Julia (Racek) Divis. She graduated from Schuyler High School. On April 7, 1956, she married Joe D. Cada at St. Mary's Catholic Church. They made their home in Schuyler. Roseann raised their two daughters and worked with Joe in their Coast to Coast store. She was a member of St. Augustine's Catholic Church and was very active in the ministry to the elderly..
    Roseann is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Peers of Omaha, one brother, Melvin (Janice) Divis of Johnson Lake, Nebraska, son-in-law Robert Wadzinski, six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Joe, daughter Mary Wadzinski, and two brothers, Jerry and Arnold Divis.

    Mrs. Zickmond Divis dies in Dodge

    Mrs. Zickmond (Julia R.) Divis, 85, died October 30, 1988 at Parkview Nursing Home, Dodge, where she had been a resident since August.

    Rev. Karl J. Heck officiated at the Nov. 2, 10:30 am funeral service at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Reba Bergt, organist accompanied Joyce Korte, solosit, Svoboda Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements and burail was in Schuyler Cemetery.

    Serving as pallbearers were Lloyd Divis, Donald Divis, Robert Otradosky, Marvin Chesley, Eldon Kracl and Merle Jensen.

    Mrs. Divis was born Oct. 4, 1903 in Dodge, the daughter of Frank and Mary Virka Racek, and attended rural school. On Feb. 18, 1925 she was married to Zikmond Divis in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Following their marriage they farmed until moving into Schuyler in January, 1980. Mrs. Divis was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid.

    Survivors includ her husband, two sons, Arnold, Omaha; Melvin, North Platte; daughter, Mrs. Joe (Roseanne) Cada, Schuyler; 11 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one sister, Clara Best, North Bend.

    She was preceded in death by one son, one daughter, two brothers and two sisters.

    Frank Racek died at this home in this city Tuesday morning, May 10, at 7:45 o'clock after an illness of only three days. He suffered a strokc of paralysis on Saturday, May 7, from which he did not rally.

    Funeral services conducted by Rev. Filipi of Clarkson were held at the Z.C.B.J. hall in Morse Bluff at 2:00 o'clock this (Thursday) afternoon, and interment was made in the Killian cemetery near Morse Bluff. There was a large attendance at the service.

    Frank Racek was born on a farm in Saunders county near the present town of Morse Bluff, December 18, 1872, the sond of Mr. and Mrs. James Racek, pioneer settlers of Saunders county. Most of his life was spend on a farm. A few years ago he retired and was located in North Bend. he was married September 22, 1896, to Miss Mary Virka in Fremont.

    Surviving are his wife, three brothers, four sisters and the following children: Frank Racek of Barnesville, Minnesota, Lewis of North Bend, Mrs. Owen Jensen (Emma) of Ames, Mrs. Zikmond Divis (Julia) of Schuyler, Mrs. Carl Chesley (Tillie) of North Bend, Mrs. Chester Best (Clara) of North Bend.

    There are also seven grandchildren: Merle and Dale Jensen, Marvin and Arlene Chesley, David and Merlin Racek, and Arnold Divis.

    Marie (Virka) Racek Obituary

    Marie (Virka) Racek was born on a farm near Morse Bluff on September 7, 1875 and died at her home in North Bend June 14, 1961. She had spent her entire life in this vicinity.

    On September 22, 1896 she was married to Frank Racek in Fremont. Six children were born to this union. She was a 62 year member of the ZCBJ Lodge in Morse Bluff. She was a kind and loving mother and leaves a host of friends and will be missed by all.

    Survivors are son, Lewis of North Bend; four daughters, Mrs. Tillie Chesley, Mrs. Emma Jensen, Mrs. Clara Best of North Bend; and Mrs. Julia Divis of Schuyler; brother Joe Virka of Morse Bluff; 13 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1931, and a son Frank in 1949.

    Funeral services were at the Moser Funeral Home Chapel Friday afternoon with the Rev. Robert E. Favre officiating. Music was by Mr. and Mrs. James Arneal.

    Pallbearers were Marvin Chesley, Merle Jensen, Melvin Divis, Gayle Chesley, Eugene Zeleny and Arnold Divis.

    Interment was in Killian Cemetery near Morse Bluff.

    Attending the services from a distance were Mrs. Frank Racek and daughter, Cheryl of Barnsville, Minn.
