1. | Louis "Lew" Buzek was born on 28 Dec 1896 in Turkey Creek, Liberty Township, Saline County, Nebraska (son of Pavel "Paul" Buzek and Anna Marie Braum); died on 7 Apr 1987 in Fillmore County, Nebraska. Notes:
Lew attended a one room rural school, with one teacher in charge of eight grades. After school he and his brothers and sisters helped with the many chores vital to running a farm. On Sundays, he and his brothers hunted rabbits and squirrels. They also trapped civit cats, possums and weasels for their pelts.
As a young man, he worked on his parents farm, as well as working as a hired hand for his brothers and neighbors. Later he farmed for himself. He travelled north into Wyoming, Montana and Canada with harvest crews and doing odd jobs. In Montana he worked as a cook. In Canada, he worked for a veterinarian. He also did carpentry work.
Lew and his brother Bill had a thirty gallon still during the prohibition. Deciding it was too much work, they later gave it up.
Lew remodeled a home for his sister Alma, and lived with her for a while. He moved back to the farm after a while, where no women could interfere with his housekeeping. He lived nearby his nephew, Dean Placek.
Lew was a good cook and gardener, and was always surroundeded by his cats and dogs. He died on the farm shortly after his 90th birthday. (Milligan, p 226).

Paul and Anna had 16 children in their first 22 year of marriage. To provide for the family a large garden was planted which the children helped to hoe and weed. Potatoes, onions, squash, pumpkins, and carrots were put in the cellar under the house for winter use. They had a variety of fruit trees and grapes in their orchard. Five to seven cows were milked every day and they churned their own butter. Chicken and duck eggs were set under hens to hatch. Sometimes they had 24 hens setting at one time. Later the family purchased two incubators. Paul raised Red Polled cattle and hogs. There was a smoke house north of the house which was used to smoke bacon and ham everytime Paul and the sons butchered. The older girls did the cooking and baking. Four large loaves of bread were baked every day. (History of Milligan, Nebraska, pp. 228-229)

4. | Pavel Buzek was born about 1818 in Radlice, Moravia; died on 6 Jun 1908 in Nebraska; was buried in Tvrz Homestead, Saline County, Nebraska. Notes:
Pavel and Marie Riha Buzek left Moravia in 1868--settling first in Red Oak, Iowa--and later moving to Saline County, Nebraska. Pavel filed a claim to the 80 acres of land on which they were living on October 17, 1870. He claimed the N 1/2 NE 1/4 of Section 18 in Turkey Creek Township. Here he built a home that was 12 by 16 feet wide with two doors and four windows. He also built a 12 by 40 foot stable and an eight by ten foot granary, along with a corn crib. A well of 50 feet was dug, and an acre of forest trees and several fruit trees were planted as well. His claim became final by December 10, 1877, two years after he had become a citizen. In 1882, he sold his homestead for $1100 to Frederick Weber and purchased 80 acres from the Chicago, Burlington, and Quincy Railroad company, purchasing another 160 acres from them in 1886.
After Pavel's wife died, he heard of land being available in Wisconsin, on the stipulation that the land be cleared of tree stumps. He made himself a sledge hammer and moved there to stake his claim. He returned home after eight years, discouraged. He was an old man and was unable to hold claim to the land he cleared. (Milligan, p 229).
At the time of the 1900 Federal census, Paul can be found in Flambeau, Chippewa County, Wisconsin. He was a boarder in the home of Frank Caloud of Bohemia. Paul was listed as born in Bohemia in January 1824, age 76, widowed. He was shown as a naturalized citizen, immigrating in 1870.

6. | Joseph Braum was born in Jan 1834 in Bohemia; died on 19 Aug 1912 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma County, Oklahoma; was buried in Fair Lawn Cemetery, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma County, Oklahoma. Notes:
Joseph, Terezie and their three children, Johanna, Anna, and Joseph left Bohemia and sailed to America in 1879. Joseph purcahsed land from the Burlington and Missouri River Railroad company on February 5, 1880 to purchase land at the S 1/2 NW 1/4 in Section 31 of Liberty Township, Fillmore County, Nebraska. Turkey Creek flowed through the middle of their eighty acres. The high bank along the creek gave them protection from the winds. Joseph was a farmer and brick maker. Along the banks of the Turkey Creek they must have found clay of such quality that it could be used for brickmaking. They imprinted a large "B" on each of the bricks they made. Joseph's bricks can still be found in the chimneys and walls of cellars and homes in the neighborhood. In 1889, the Braums decided to leave Nebraska and travel to the Oklahome territory for free land. The Braums settled into what was later to become Oklahoma City. In 1891, they sold their farm in Nebraska to Frank Keberle, whose family still owns that land. (Milligan, p 209)
