There were at least three (3) Samuel Strong's of approximately this age in the north-eastern area of Ohio in the 1860's.

Samuel married Dora Ingersoll on 1 Mar 1855 in Medina, Medina County, Ohio. Dora was born on 15 Mar 1835 in Elyria, Lorain County, Ohio; and died. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

In Benjamin Dwight's book, the following children are listed:

Edwin Lee Strong b. in Cleveland, O, April 15, 1860 Samuel (M?)Erwin Strong b. Nov 2, 1866

According to the 1860 and 1870 census, it appears that Samuel was actually the older child and Lee the younger. Perhaps Dwight simply transposed the birthdates.

1. Samuel Strong was born about 1860 in Ohio; and died.
2. Lee Strong was born about 1867 in Ohio; and died.

Benjamin Dwight writes that he "grad. at Fairfield Med. Acad. , Herkimer Co., N.Y. in 1826...a practising physician at Amherst, O., and afterwards Elyria, O....Dr. Strong was twice a member of the Ohio Legislature, and a member of the Methodist church."

Samuel married Caroline Amelia Merwin on 19 Nov 1828. Caroline (daughter of David Merwin and Anna Bicknell) was born on 1 Nov 1808 in Durham, Greene County, New York; and died. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

A farmer and hotel-keeper and a deacon in the Presbyterian church at Ashland (the Windham), N.Y., where he d. Oct. 3, 1826. (Dwight, p. 485).

Elijah married Mary Robertson. Mary was born on 5 Apr 1778; died on 31 Mar 1850 in Elyria, Lorain County, Ohio. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Notes:

The daughter of George Robertson b. 1757 in Glasgow, Scotland who came to America when 17 years of age and at 18 entered the Revolutionary army. He m. Lydia Garrett, and English lady, at Troy, N.Y. , where he settled and owned what is now a large part of the city. (Dwight, p. 485).

David married Anna Bicknell. Anna was born before 1788; and died. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Notes:

A farmer in Coventry and Sharon, Ct., and finally in Ashland, Greene County, New York (1785-1805), where he owned a large tract of land. He was killed by the kick of a horse.

Elisha married Anna Pinneo. Anna was born about 1746; died on 18 Nov 1818 in Windham, Greene County, New York. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Notes:

She was a descendant of James Pinneo, a Huguenot refugee from France. The name was originally Pino. He came to this country at the time of the revocation of the edict of Nantes, with Joseph Sulard, each of the age of 20. They purchased adjacent farms in Lebanon, Ct. Their two families maintained for several genearations a warm mutual interest in each other. One of his sons married Jerusha Strong.
