    Notes:

    Per the 1881 HISTORY OF IONIA AND MONTCALM COUNTIES, MICHIGAN, in the section titled "Berlin," in 1836 there was an important influx of settlers, among whom were William Babcock, Amasa Sessions, Zophar Alderman, William ELVERT, William Reed, Elisha Doty and his three sons (pg. 181). Alderman was the first settler upon section 36, and William ELVERT the second, but a little while after Alderman. (pg. 182). In 1842, William Elworth (sic) was assessed 1 day of highway labor in District No. 7 (pg. 184). He was included in a list of voters in Berlin Township in 1846 and 1849.

    (Research):William and Ann Elvert lived in Berlin Township at the time of the 1850 and 1860 Ionia County census. They divorced in 1869, and were in separate households in 1870, both still in Ionia County.

    On the 1850 Ionia Township, there was also a 20 year old Cornelius Elvert, a Tailor born in Ireland, who lived in the home of Mason and Caroline Hearsey. He most likely is related to William. Perhaps a brother or nephew of William Elvert, as an 8 year old Cornelius Elvert is also living in the home of William and Anna Elvert (nee Brown).

    This appears to be him on the 1880 census, in Ionia Marriage and Divorce records, and in Catholic Cemetery Records:

    Need to verify date of marriage to determine if Ann is the mother of all the children listed on the 1850 and 1860 census, or if some might have been Williams by a prior marriage. It appears all children born after the 1850 census are hers.

    Obtained a copy of the divorce file from Ionia County. It was very sketchy. The complete contents are as follows:
