    Notes:

    Irma Jo-Ann Volkmer, 80, of Fairmont, died Tuesday (09/08/09) at Fairview Manor in Fairmont. She was born on (10/08/28) on a farm near Milligan, Neb. to Mike and Olga (Sobotka) Halama. She was the youngest of two children. Irma married Dallas Volkmer on (12/28/47) in Geneva, Neb. They resided on a farm north of Exeter, Neb. until 1968, at which time they moved to a farm near Waco, Neb., where they resided until 1999. After Dallas's death in 1999, Irma moved to McCool Jct. to be near her family.
    She is survived by her son, Jerry (Sue) Volkmer, McCool Jct.; daughters, Linda (Alan) Galaway, McCool Jct.; and Kaye (Jim) Weakland, Grand Island; eight grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Richard; her husband, Dallas; and her daughter, Debra.
    Funeral services 10 a.m. Friday (09/11/09) at United Church of Christ in Exeter, Nebraska, with burial at the Exeter Cemetary. Visitation will be at the Farmer Funeral Home in Exeter Thursday (09/10/09) from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., with the family receiving visitors from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

    Notes:

    According to the 1930 Federal Census, Michael J. Halama, age 26, was living with his wife of three years, Olga Berthy age 18, and their two children, Richard Dale, age 2, and Irma, age 1. Olga was born in Nebraska, as were both of her parents.

  1. 4.  Vaclav Halama was born on 30 Aug 1873 in Zichovice, Bohemia; died on 22 May 1948 in Fillmore County, Nebraska; was buried in Bohemian National Cemetery (Milligan South), Milligan, Fillmore County, Nebraska.

    Notes:

    The son of John and Barbara HALAMA. He sailed from Bremen on the German ship, Prinz Frederich Wilhelm, land in the United States on April 12, 1910. He came to the farm of John HROMADKA where he worked as a farm hand near Milligan. In 1912, he made arrangements to send for his family: wife, Antonie and her mother, Josefa HLAVSA, and his sons, James, Mike and John. The left Bremen on the German ship Breslav and landed in Baltimore, Maryland the day the Titanic sank. Vaclav was a hard worker, and was employed as a Mason. He became ill in 1918, and spent the rest of his life in a hospital. At the time of the 1930 Federal census, a James Halama was listed as residing in a hospital in Hastings.

    Vaclav married Antonie Hlavsa before 1899 in Bohemia. Antonie was born on 16 Jan 1875 in Bohemia; died on 2 May 1961 in Geneva, Fillmore County, Nebraska; was buried in Bohemian National Cemetery (Milligan South), Milligan, Fillmore County, Nebraska. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]


  2. 5.  Antonie Hlavsa was born on 16 Jan 1875 in Bohemia; died on 2 May 1961 in Geneva, Fillmore County, Nebraska; was buried in Bohemian National Cemetery (Milligan South), Milligan, Fillmore County, Nebraska.

    Notes:

    At the time of the 1920 Census, Antonie was listed as the head of household. Her sons were listed as Jim (21) , Mike (16), John (9) and Joe (7). Also living in the household was Antonie mothers, the 76 year old Josefa . Jim and Mike were both employed as laborers at stores. (1920 Census). She loved to crochet and raise a garden and flowers. (Milligan, p 281).
