Generation: 1

  1. 1.  Christian Binkelmann was born on 5 Jul 1754 in Pl?derhausen, Jagstkreis, W?rttemberg, Germany (son of Johann Jakob Binkelmann, I and Rosina Hofer); died on 6 Nov 1802 in Pl?derhausen, Jagstkreis, W?rttemberg, Germany.

    Notes:

BonnieMaragaret Jacobs wrote that Christianus became a weaver, probably of the flax that was locally grown (p. 53).

Christian married Katharina Barbara Erlenmaier on 7 Jul 1778 in Pl?derhausen, Jagstkreis, W?rttemberg, Germany. Katharina was born on 4 Mar 1757 in W?rttemberg, Germany; died on 21 Apr 1803 in Schorndorf, Jagstkreis, W?rttemberg, Germany. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Notes:

    Married:
BonnieMargaret Jacobs, on page 63 of her 1981 manuscript, cites DEKANAT SCHORNDORF, BAND I, BLATT 24a for the parish records of the Christianus Binkelmann and Barbara Erlenmayer family.

BonnieMargaret Jacobs notes that the kirchlichen Familienregister Band 1 details the tragic deaths of Christian and Barbara "Christianus Binkelmann died as a result of several hits with a huge axe, delivered by his wife. The record notes that Barbara, murderer of her husband, was beheaded in Schorndorf some four months later. Other notes in the parish records reveal that this rash deed happened at midday, while Christianus slept in bed in drunkenness. Since the civil records of Pl?derhausen have not been filed and indexed, we have no idea what drove Barbara to that madness. Of course, we all know that Christianus had no business being abed, drunk, at midday. Certainly not in Germany at that time. We can only develop our own fantasies of their homelife that led to such a brutal end---for both of them."

From the Burgermeisteramnt Schorndorf, BonnieMargaret noted, we receive the following official account of the excecution at the castle in Schorndorf: 'On 21 April, 1803, was Katharina Binkelman of Pl?derhausen, born Erlenmaier, approximately 46 years old, who killed her husband Christian Binkelmann, a weaver of that place, with a huge axe--with a large sword beheaded, her head placed on a sharp post, her headless body delivered to the clinic at Tubigen.' Without more information is is impossible to know if justice was done--in either case." (p. 60)

At the time of their parents deaths, their four surviving children ranged in age from 7 to 15. The eldest son was listed as "vermisst" (vanished, disappeared) on parish records. The second and third son both died before the were age 30. Only daughter Catharina married and remained in the area. Since the population was ever growing and the Burghers anxious to limit the growth within trades, the sons of both Christianus and his elder brother Johann Jacob were apparently excluded from training. The community demanded a stable, conformist population where there would be no problems maintaining the status quo. Ever diligent to identify and eradicated tendencies to the contrary, they had ample reason to deny Burgher status to the upcoming generation of Binkelmann men in Pl?derhausen . (p. 62).

    Children:
    1. Eva Dorothea Binkelmann was born on 8 Mar 1787 in Pl?derhausen, Jagstkreis, W?rttemberg, Germany; died on 11 Jul 1795 in Pl?derhausen, Jagstkreis, W?rttemberg, Germany.

BonnieMargaret Jacobs writes that she was a daughter of citizen and carpenter Michael Hofer. (p. 52. 02).

    Notes:

    Married:
BonnieMargaret Jacobs writes that they had eight children in total, the last one was stillborn and not idenfied by name or sex in the parish records (p. 53). In the chapter titled "The Migration to Pl?derhausen," in her 1981 unpublished manuscript, she stated that the familienregister information on Johann Jacob I was received from the pastor of Pl?derhausen. On page 63 of this manuscript she also cites DEKANAT SCHORNDORF, BAND I, BLATT 24 as the source from which she obtained the details of the makeup of this family.

    Children:
    1. Johann Jakob Binkelmann, II was born on 19 Sep 1752 in Pl?derhausen, Jagstkreis, W?rttemberg, Germany; died on 6 Jun 1788 in Pl?derhausen, Jagstkreis, W?rttemberg, Germany.

Generation: 3

  1. 4.  Johann Georg "Hans Jerg" Benkelmann was born on 23 Apr 1688 in Fachsenfeld, Aalen, Jagstkreis, W?rttemberg, Germany (son of Hans Albrecht Bengelmann and Catharine Roter); died on 3 May 1775 in Pl?derhausen, Jagstkreis, W?rttemberg, Germany.

    Notes:

Bonnie-Margaret Jacobs writes that he was called Hans Jerg, and that he migrated to Pl?derhausen Parish, about 1700...many miles to the east, and a bit to the south, of Aalen. In earlier times the town had been called Pliederhausen and then Bliederhausen. It is split down the middle by the Rems River and the surrounding hills are given to vineyards and orchards, the town communally owning as well a large stand of beechwood.

BonnieMargaret indicated Pl?derhausen was a small town on the main road from Stuttgart to Nurnberg. On the map, Pl?derhausen appears nearly equidistant between Aalen and Stuttgart, slightly northeast of Lorch.

BonnieMargaret further noted, on page 50 of her unpublished 1981 manuscript, that on the record of the marriage of Hans Jerg Benkelmann/Binkelmann to Margaretha M?ller, he is identified as a "wannanmacher and citizen and subject of the Earl of Wollwarth-Laubach." She shows that Pl?derhausen parish records show him as a son of "Albrect Benkelmann, Waiblingen und Catharina, geb. Roter." Bonnie wrote that the occupation of wannanmacher is uncertain in our modern times, but translates loosely as "pool maker," and likely refers to some sort of copper tub, perhaps for bathing, or for water basins used in the public works of the town.

Hans Jerg died in Pl?derhausen on May 2, 1775 "after a long sick-bed, aged 87 years and 9 days, son of Allbrect Benckelmann, subject of the Earl of Wollwarth-Laubach and parish-curatot in Waiblingen in the parish of Fachsenfeld." Usually this is the extent of the record of death entered by the pastors, but the pastor of Pl?derhausen added the following additional note "the oldest man in the village, he had been a valuable citizen of much usefulness to the community and was noted for his great wisdom." (Jacobs, p. 51).

In the chapter of her manuscript titled "The Migration to Pluderhausen," BonnieMargaret statesd that the familienregister entry for Hans Jerg Binckelmann (Johann Georg) was abstracted from the actual parish records in Pl?derhausen by Friedrich Wollmershauser, professional genealogist of Stuttgart.

Johann married Anna Barbara Wallter on 16 May 1724 in Pl?derhausen, Jagstkreis, W?rttemberg, Germany. Anna was born before 1704 in Pl?derhausen, Jagstkreis, W?rttemberg, Germany; died on 15 Apr 1742 in Pl?derhausen, Jagstkreis, W?rttemberg, Germany. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 5.  Anna Barbara Wallter was born before 1704 in Pl?derhausen, Jagstkreis, W?rttemberg, Germany; died on 15 Apr 1742 in Pl?derhausen, Jagstkreis, W?rttemberg, Germany.

    Notes:

BonnieMargaret shows her as a daughter of Balthasar Wallter, a citizen of Pl?derhausen (p. 50).

    Notes:

    Married:
At the time of his second marriage, BonnieMargaret Jacobs writes that parish records show that Hans Jerg had achieved citizen status om Pl?derhausen (p. 50).

    Children:
    1. 2. Johann Jakob Binkelmann, I was born on 22 Jul 1725 in Pl?derhausen, Jagstkreis, W?rttemberg, Germany; died on 19 Sep 1789 in Pl?derhausen, Jagstkreis, W?rttemberg, Germany.

Generation: 4

  1. 8.  Hans Albrecht Bengelmann was born about 1654 in Berg, Aalen, Jagstkreis, W?rttemberg, Germany (son of Adam Bengelmann and Maria Harsch); and died.

    Notes:

In April, 1980, Bonnie Jacobs wrote the following in a letter to Ben Benkelman: " I think I am reaching the end of the line on the Benkelman research and so I want to share it with you, Ben. I believe that the oldest ancestor I am going to be able to record is one Albrecht Benkelmann (actually spelled Binkelmann)..I am now researching the parish of Fachsenfeld.

The conclusion that Albrecht would be the earliest ancestor BonnieMargaret would discover was premature, as in the Fall of 1980, while on a research trip to Germany, the Stuttgart based genealogist she had hired was able to help her find parish records for both Allbrect's father and grandfather, both of who bore the name Adam. Fachsenfeld parish records-- researched and transcribed by Bonnie aided by the professional German genealogists she had hired--Dr. Paul Edel of Aalen and Friedrich Wollmershauser of Stuttgart--show Hanns Albrecht Benggelmann as a "Bauerknecht von Waiblingen", a farm laborer from Waiblingen (on the outskirts of Aalen), at the time of his marriage.

Hans married Catharine Roter on 10 Oct 1678 in Fachsenfeld, Aalen, Jagstkreis, W?rttemberg, Germany. Catharine was born about 1654 in W?rttemberg, Germany; died on 27 Mar 1695 in Fachsenfeld, Aalen, Jagstkreis, W?rttemberg, Germany. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 9.  Catharine Roter was born about 1654 in W?rttemberg, Germany; died on 27 Mar 1695 in Fachsenfeld, Aalen, Jagstkreis, W?rttemberg, Germany.

    Notes:

    Married:
BonnieMargaret Jacob's wrote, in her unpublished 1981 manuscript, that Hans Albrect married and raised his family near Waiblingen, on the outskirts of Aalen. But his sons would have to move on as the area was not large enough to sustain its growing population. Some of these descendants probably went onto Aalen as their cousins had.

    Children:
    1. Magdalena Regina Bengelmann was born on 1 Jul 1680 in Fachsenfeld, Aalen, Jagstkreis, W?rttemberg, Germany; and died.
    2. Anna Barbara Bengelmann was born on 10 Oct 1685 in Fachsenfeld, Aalen, Jagstkreis, W?rttemberg, Germany; and died.
    3. 4. Johann Georg "Hans Jerg" Benkelmann was born on 23 Apr 1688 in Fachsenfeld, Aalen, Jagstkreis, W?rttemberg, Germany; died on 3 May 1775 in Pl?derhausen, Jagstkreis, W?rttemberg, Germany.
    4. Caspar Bengelmann was born on 5 May 1693 in Fachsenfeld, Aalen, Jagstkreis, W?rttemberg, Germany; and died.
