Carolyn A. Schmalken, age 70, of Lincoln, died March 25, 2013.

Survived by husband, Gary; son & daughter-in-law, Steve & Tammy Schmalken, Malcolm; daughter & son-in- law, Debrah & Danny Jr. Kage, LaVista; sons & daughters-in-law, Jeff & Melanie Schmalken, Valparasio, Brian & Tiffany Schmalken, Ft. Worth, Texas; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Fellowship Community Church, 86th & Holdrege St. Officiating: Pastor George Cook. Viewing: Friday 9-9, with family 6-8 at the funeral home. Bob Nohavec shows he was born in Bojanovice, Rabe, Bohemia, as does the Milligan 2008 book. There are several villages in various districts of Bohemia with the name of Bojanovice, near Prague, in Klatovy, in Strakonice, in Kromeriz, and in Znojmo.

Ancestry.com links her to the Anna Hruby, enumerated in Valley County, (and later Custer County) Nebraska 1900, 1910, and 1920. Dates of birth don't seem to match however, as the 1900 census shows Anna Hruby was born in April 1899. Additionally, if Joseph and Richard were her sons, she would have been enumerated with Joseph Maresh and those sons in 1920. It might be Joseph and Richard were born to a previous wife?

Bob Nohavec shows that Anna was actually Anna BETKOVA, the daughter of Vaclav BETKA and Elizabeth ROHACEK. Althought the 1930 census shows her as born in Nebraska, Bob instead lists her place of birth as Rounice, and shows she emigrated in 1908.

Notes:

John spent his entire life on the farm, except for one year while he attended automotive school in Lincoln. (Milligan, p 256).

Immediately after their marriage, John and Marie moved to Hayes County to homestead. After proving their land, they moved to Saline county, where they farmed for eight years, and then to Fillmore County, where they farmed for an additional 26 years until their retirement. (Milligan, p 255).

Notes:

The son of Frank and Mary Hamouz Elznic, he came to America at age 16, making his home in Humbolt, Nebraska, moving to Milligan in 1891. He was Catholic. Frank held an office for over 30 years in the Katilicky Delnik. (Milligan, p 266).
