  1. 2.  Cyrus F. Braden was born on 2 Aug 1851 in Ashland County, Ohio; died on 22 Jan 1925.

    Notes:

Cyrus F. Braden, well-known insurance agenty at Lake Odessa, this county, is a native of Ohio, having been born on a farm five miles from Ashland, in Ashland county, that state, August 2, 1851, son of Jacob and Elizabeth (McCormick) Braden, nativs, respetively of Ohio and Pennsylvania, the former of who was born on the same farm on which the subject of this sketch was born, the farm cleared by his father, Thoams Braden, more than a century ago. Cyrus was about fourteen years old when he came to this county with his parents and after finishing the course in rural school in the neighborhood of his new home attended a select school, in which he prepared himself for teaching. For twelve years he taught school, his summers being occupied by working at the carpenter's trade. After this marriage in the fall of 1876 (sic) he began farming, continuing, however to spend his winters in the school room, and was thus engaged for three or four more winters, after which he devoted himself wholly to the farm until 1884, in which year he took a course at the Grand Rapids Business College in preparation to taking up a mercantile career. He then bought Kirtland's drug store at Lakeview and operated the same with considerable success until it was destroyed in the fire which swept that village on August 3, 1894. Mr. Braden's stock was not heavily insured and he consequently suffered a heavy loss. He then gave up the drug business and moved to Lake Odessa, where his brother was engaged in the lumber business. There was another lumber yard in the village and he bought the same and consolicated it with that of his brother in the fall of 1894, the two brothers continuing the partnership for seven years. During that time Cyrus F. Braden had been doing quite a business in writing insurance and in 1901 gave up the lumber business and has since been devoting his entire attention to the insurance business, in which he has been quite successful. In 1906, he bought his wife's father's farm and has since been managing it.

    Notes:

Clarence E. Cramer writes that his baptismal sponsors were his maternal grandparents, Johann and Elisabetha Neidig. He was named in honor of Johann(es) Neudig. He indicated that after his marriage, he and Catharina lived near the Stone Church. He moved to Fostoria, Ohio sometime between 1837 and 1840...(with) printed records for each of these dates, as well as Family tales. (P. 57).

Edith Beard Cannon, in "Genealogical Reports for The Historical Society of York County, Vol. XXIX, p. 52, Evidence of the Cramer Families of York before the year 1850 REVISED" published 1843, cited the following deed:

(3A, 29) December 26, 1814. Johannes Cramer of Shrewsbury Township, yeoman; to John KOLLER: for $1.50: lot 18 in Shrewsbury town.

According to the "Biographical History of Van Wert County (Ohio), Volume II" John Cramer Sr came to Ohio in 1840 and settled on a farm in Seneca County, where he died June 29, 1856, his wife having departed September 16, 1854. They were both members of the German Lutheran Church, and in politics, Mr. Cramer was a democrat. He had served in the war of 1812 as a captain, and was an honored man in his community, where he left a fair fortune. (p. 154) In the book "Seneca County, Biographical Sketches" it says that John and Catherine (Slote) Cramer settled in Loudon Township, Seneca County, in 1838, and purchased 160 acres of land, most of which they cleared and improved and where they lived; here the father died in 1855, in his sixty fifth year; and the mother in 1854, in her sixty second year. (Loudon Township, p 893)

According to Dean Cramer, John donated some of his own land for the Cramer Cemetery in Fostoria, Ohio.
