    Services for Candice Leah Sjostrand, 35, of Winona are scheduled for 10:00 am, Monday, March, 16, 2015 at Crossbrand Cowboy Church, Tyler with Pastor Mike Morrow officiating. Graveside services will be at 3:00 pm, Monday at Joel Halbert Cemetery in Milam with Pastor Robert Shaddock officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 15, 2015 from 2-4:00 pm at Lloyd James Funeral Home.

    Candice was born on July 27, 1979 at Mary E. Dickerson Hospital in Jasper and passed away at 10:20pm on March 12, 2015 in Tyler.

    She is survived by her husband, Reed Sjostrand; her children, Katie, Daniel and Abbi; her brother J.T. Halbert of Silver Spring, Maryland; her parents, Norma Clark of Wiergate and Tom Halbert of Milam; her grandparents, Mary Lou and J. W. Clark of Mayflower and multiple extended family members.

    She was married to Katie's dad, Johnathan Andrew McKenzie on June 1, 1999, who passed away September 3, 2003.

    She was married to her present husband, Reed, on June 14, 2013. They established their family on a farm in Winona.

    Notes:

    Laurin Thomas "Tom" Halbert, DVM, life time resident of Hemphill, passed away quietly in his sleep at 3 a.m. Tuesday morning, June 25, 2019.

    Halbert obtained his DVM for Texas A&M and his BS In Chemistry from Texas Tech. He was a certified pilot and a captain in the U.S. Army. He was a life long member of Bethany Baptist Church, Milam.

    He is survived by his wife, Deborah Halbert; his sons, Mitchell Phillips and Connor Philips of Hemphill, and J. T. Halbert of Maryland; step-children, Michael Phillips of Boise, ID, Matthew Childres of Bogata, and Mary Morton of Longview; seven grandchildren, Kaitlin Marris, Peyton Childres, Macy Childres, Hannah Reeves, Katie Mackenzie, Daniel Cordos, and Shephard Halbert; sister, Mary Kate "Suzy" Halbert Weems of Nacogdoches; niece Lori Weems Evers; and nephews, Jon, Zac and Rob Weems.

    In lieu of services, Halbert requested memorials be made Call Farley's Boys Ranch in his name.

It is not known what grade he was in, or if indeed it was the same person as Levi Thompson Halbert. The photo was submitted to the "Sabine County Reporter" by Robert E. "Ted" Finley of Van Nuys, California.

    SABINE COUNTY REPORTER 11 September 1996

    ...Two prominent Sabine County residents testified on behalf of (Judge John Larry) Hyden at Monday's hearing. Genevieve Halbert of Milam, a retired teacher who has lived in the county over 50 years was the first to take the stand. She stated she has been closely acquinted with Hyden approximately ten years, however, has known his family several years. Halbert had great praise for Hyden as a person and when asked about his service as a judge, stated "He has served very well. He is the best judge we've ever had."

This family was in the book 'The Garlington Family' by Thesa Kennedy Scogland."

    A Celebration of J.W. Clark's Life, Age 91 of Wiergate, Texas, will be held 10:00am Friday, October 16, 2015 at Burkeville Baptist Church in Burkeville, Texas with burial to follow at Mattox Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00pm, Thursday, October 15, 2015 at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Burkeville.

    J.W. was born November 1, 1923 in Clarktown and died October 14, 2015, at his home. He was a long time resident of Survey (Mayflower), Texas. J.W. was a graduate of Burkeville High School. He was an Administrative Assistant with The Civil Conservation Corp before joining the U.S. Navy during WWII, serving in the Philippines on the USAC Albert Conn as a Signalman. After the war he bought land in the Mayflower Community to farm and ranch. He also bought and sold land and timber over the years. He was a member of both the Port Arthur and Lufkin Carpenter's Local in the Building of The Sam Rayburn Dam. He was a member of the Cattleman's Association, The Rural Electric Association, REA Board Member and The National Poultry Association, representing them in Washington D.C.

    He is survived by sons, James Michael Clark of Hornbeck, Louisiana and Randy Wade Clark of Kemah, Texas; daughters, Norma Clark of Wiergate, Suzanne Ruckel & husband Ross of Mayflower, and Angela Conn & husband Tim of Nacogdoches; brother Ivy Lee Clark & wife Tommie Jean of Pineland, Texas; as well as his grandchildren, J.T. Halbert, Misty Dillon, Andrea Smalley, Kelly Dickerson, Ashleigh Hooper, Chad Dillon, Chantel Mortera, Jacob Conn, Tyler Clark, Joshua Conn, and Seth Ruckel, along with 14 great-grandchildren.

    He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Mary Lou Clark, daughter-in-law Daylene Clark, granddaughter Candice Sjostrand, grandson John Eric Ruckel, and sister, Lexie Rice.
