Could Cade be a nickname for Cajabeth? Jack White emailed, in August, 2013, that he is descended from Cajabeth White, who was living in Bute Co, NC with his brother, William, as early as 1766. He had two sons, John and Robert. John White inherited land from a man named John Seagrove, whose will names John White as his nephew. It seems likely that Cajabeth's wife, Frances, was a Seagrove, but this is not proven.

The 1771 tax list for Bute Co shows that Young McLemore, who is part of your family tree, had an overseer named John Seagrove, who appears on a number of documents with members of the McLemore family before they migrated out of Bute (later Warren) Co. I have been trying for a couple of years to piece together precisely how the Seagrove, McLemore and White families may have interacted with one another, but the Seagrove family history is as complicated as that of the Whites.

The thing that interests me about your website is that Cajabeth White was frequently referred to in court documents as Cade, and I see in your website that two sons of Edward White (b. 1781 in Mecklenburg Co, VA) each had sons they named Cade.

Cade married Mary Susan Click on 9 Nov 1875. Mary (daughter of William M. Click and Elizabeth Merchant) was born on 14 Dec 1856 in Arkansas; died on 23 Jan 1909 in Texas; was buried in Gravel Hill Cemetery, Sabine County, Texas. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  4. 7.  Mary Susan Click was born on 14 Dec 1856 in Arkansas (daughter of William M. Click and Elizabeth Merchant); died on 23 Jan 1909 in Texas; was buried in Gravel Hill Cemetery, Sabine County, Texas.

    Notes:

In her annotated transcription of the Gravel Hill Cemetery, Kay Parker McCary shows her as a daughter of William M. Click

    Children:
    1. Cora Eugenia White was born on 28 Jan 1877 in Sabine County, Texas; died on 8 Mar 1966 in Sabine County, Texas; was buried in Gravel Hill Cemetery, Sabine County, Texas.
    2. Lena E. White was born on 15 Jan 1879 in Texas; died on 30 Nov 1961 in Beaumont, Jefferson County, Texas; was buried in Restlawn Memorial Park, La Feria, Cameron County, Texas.

    Notes:

Listed as Alexander on the 1850 census; as A. H. in 1860 and 1870, and as Andrew in 1880 and 1900. Steve McCalip emailed, in August 2015, that his name "...should be "Andrew Henderson McGown" This is what is on the Bible page of his birth, his father's bible (George W. McGown). I have many other documents supporting this...."

"Received a land grant from the Republic of Texas (bro. of John Franklin McGown). Alex H. McGown was sherriff of Sabine County for many years. All these McGowns are buried in the Browning Cemetery on the Camino Real near Milam." (White and Toole, p 52).
