  1. 1.  Nathan Cook was born on 25 Dec 1809 in Georgia (son of Rev. William Cook and Temperance Morris); died on 17 Aug 1881 in Sabine Parish, Louisiana; was buried in Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, Negreet, Sabine Parish, Louisiana.

    Notes:

    Listed in 1861 as having six or more slaves. and is listed in many court papers regarding tutorship of members of his family or in land transactions. Robert Flannagan, age 18, was living in their household in Sabine Parish at the time of the 1850 census. (Casagranda, 1850 Census, 86).

    The History of Sabine Parish, Louisiana (author John Belisle, The Sabine Banner Press, 1912) states that "in 1860 the white population of Sabine Parish numbers about four thousant, and there were less than two thousand slaves. There were few really wealthy people in the parish, and many owned not more than one of two slaves." The owners of six or more in 1861 included Nathan and Mary Cook; James Cook.
