    Notes:

    Johannes Jurians Westfael was the son of Juriaen Westfael and Marritje Hansen. Johannes was of Foxhall Manor, Kingston, Ulster, New York. He had two brothers, Abell and Symen, and two sisters, Elsjen and Rymerick. He married Marritje Jacobs Cool 28 Jan 1683 in Kingston, Ulster, New York. Marritje was born in Kingston, Ulster, New York to Jacob Barentsen Cool and Marritje Simons . She was baptized 7 Mar 1666 in Kingston, Ulster, New York. She had three older brothers, Symen, Barent (who died young), and Barent, and another brother, Arent, who was probably her twin. Johannes was among those who obtained a deed from a group of Native Americans for land in the Minisink area. This land is believed to be located in between the present-day cities of Westbrookville and Port Jervis, Orange, New York.

    Arrived Rensselaerswyck aboard De Houttuyn 1642 from Luydendorp, the Netherlands. (Stowell, p 42). The Westfall name was also spelled Westphael, Bestvaal, Westfalen, Westphal, Westval, etc. It indicated that the family was originally from the Westphalen area of Germany (Stowell, p 485).

    The daughter of Hans Jansen. He was a farmer in Long Island. She was an indentured servant to Philip Gerritssen, who kept a tavern and lodging house in New Amsterdam. After Jurien died, she married second Jacob Jansen. (Stowell, p 37, 485).

    Notes:

    Marritje was baptized 12 October 1632 in the Nieuwkerk (New Church), Amsterdam, North Holland, Netherlands to Sijmon Floriszen and Claertje Arents. She had four sisters, Lijsbet, Machtelt, Marij (who probably died young), and Jannetje, and three brothers, Floris, Arent (who probably died young), and Arent.

    She seems to have arrived from the Netherlands as an indentured servant to Pieter Pietersen Harder "in the city of New Amstel, on the South River". Evert Pels, the husband of her sister Jannetje, paid for the remainder of her indenture in 19 February 1659.
    The Cools lived in Wildwyck (now Kingston, Ulster, New York) where he worked for Juriaen Westfael, a farmer, and Marritje also worked, probably as a laundress. They moved to New Amsterdam (New York City) in 1667, where Jacob became a "porter in the Weigh house" and a "beer and wine carrier" like his father. By 1689, they had returned to Ulster County, where Jacob took an oath of allegiance.

Barent was granted the small burgher right on 14 April 1657. In 1665, he was listed as living on Bridge Street in New Amsterdam.
