Visitation beginning Monday (6/23/08) from 1 p.m. - 8 p.m. at Farmer & Son Funeral Home - Kotas Chapel, Milligan. Memorials to family in lieu of flowers.     They are both graduates of Milligan High School, and live on a farm northeast of Milligan. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters: Jane and Jackie. Jane lives with her husband Sam Antholz in York, Nebraska. Jane and Sam have two daughters, Jessica and Jenna. Jackie was killed in a tragic car accident on August 20, 1978. (Milligan, p 196).

    Frank and his father were certified members of the Red Polled Cattle Club. They operated a dairy, delivering fresh bottled milk and cream to Milligan residents and businesses. Cows were hand-milked, and glass bottles were washed and sterilized by hand. The dairy was closed during World War II when the children were no longer there to help run it. (Milligan, p 307).

    Frank married Anna Herynk on 22 Feb 1909 in Geneva, Fillmore County, Nebraska.     They met at the Milligan Catholic Church which they both attended. Frank and Anna went to Geneva, Nebraska, by horse and carriage, to be married on February 22, 1909. The day began very sunny and clear, but by the time the newleyweds had reached the bride's family home, nearly 12 inches of snow had fallen. Frank and Anna, along with four other couples, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Capek, Mr. and Mrs. James Kotas, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Capek and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Schultz were married at the same time by Judge Fulton. (Milligan, p 307).

    Notes:

    John learned his father's trade of blacksmith. He served in the army in Europe, and came to America at age 22, leaving his family behind. When he arrived in Exeter, Nebraska, he was met by Mr. SLUKA, who he had known in the old country. John practiced the trade of blacksmith and horticulturist while in the army. Neighbors helped him put up a blacksmith shop and purchase tools. His parents were Tomas HROMADKA and Josephine HALOCH. His two sisters were Mary Hromadka, wife of Emil FRANTA of Omaha. His other sister, Rose Hromadka, married Emanuel HAVELKA of Rice Lake, Wisconsin. (Milligan, p 309-310).

    They traveled to America with the John CAPEK family, arriving at Exeter April 27, 1880. They were brought to the Anton and Frank SVEC home, and assisted them in brick making. They later purchased the n 1/2 SW 1/4 of Section 27, Glengary Township, from John VEJRASKA, and adding the S 1/2 of this quarter section in January of 1892, buying it from Vaclav VEJRASKA.     The biography of Anton J. Capek, Jr. in the Milligan book list his grandparents as "Joseph and Marie Vejraska Herynk," and goes on to note that they "came to America with the Capeks in 1880." (p 233). Their oldest son was born and died in Bohemia before they emigrated to the United States. (p 299).

    John and Josephine came from Kejic, Bohemia to the United States in 1860. The trip took six weeks. Theire first stop in Nebraska was Nebraska City. They later settled on a homestead, the E 1/2 SE 1/4 in Section 26, Liberty Township, Fillmore County. (Milligan, p. 375).
