    It appears that after the death of her husband, Sybil may have remarried. At the time of the 1860 Federal census, 40 year old Sybil is listed in the household of 55 year old John BODGLEY, along with 9 year old Worthy GATES and 13 year old Lydia GATES. Worthy is listed, in error, as female. 23 year old George BODGLEY was living in the home as well. They were living in Jacksonville, Chickasaw County, Iowa.

Y., from 1804 to 1815, and in Perry, N. Y., about nine years. They then moved to Ellington, N. Y., where they died (she, 20 Jan. 1854; he, 18 Jan. 1860), and were buried. He cleared a large farm in Ellington; helped to build the first meeting-house; was a constituent member of the first Christian Church; was soon chosen one of its deacons, and held the office till his death.

    ELLINGTON (Chautauqua County, New York)

    Christian Church of Ellington (1823) The Christian Church of Ellington (then Gerry) was organized July 13,1823 and was composed of seven members: Ira GATES Noel C. GATES Simon LAWRENCE Clarissa GATES Polly GATES [It is believed that the first and third of the following named officers make up the seven original members.] Freeman WALDEN and Elisha BEARDSLEY were chosen elders; Seth S. CHASE, deacon

    No articles of faith were adopted; the members simply agreeing ? to take the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments for the rule of faith and practice at all times.? From the time of organization for about tens years the records are meager, containing little else than the record of members received and dismissions. Among the ministers who served the church were:

    The meeting house was built about 1845. It was repaired in 1859, and dedicated anew, Jan 5, 1860; sermon by E. B. ROLLINS.

    Notes:

    Jerusha Whitney, b. in Ridgefield, Conn., 25 or 28 June 1755; married, 22 Dec. 1774, at Ridgebury, in Ridgefield, by Rev. Samuel Camp, pastor of the Congregational Church in Ridgebury, to David Gates, of the same place, a farmer, born in June 1753, possibly the youngest child of Samuel and Rachel (Hayes) Gates. They moved, about 1789, to Hinesburgh, Vt, where he died of consumption, 19 June 1793, and was buried in the Hinesburgh Cemetery. In 1797 she removed, with some of her children, to Paris, N.Y., but returned to Hinesburgh in the winter of I 797-8, and in 1802 married Lawrence Delong, a farmer, of a town adjoining Hinesburgh. She died at St. Albans, Vt., 29 or 31 July 1840, in her 86th year, and was buried at St. Albans Bay, Vt. In her last years she dwelt with her daughter, Mrs. Betsey (Gates) Brooks, at St. Albans, Vt.
