\\According to the book "Sabine County Marriages 1875-1900 1900-1910 Prior to 1875" by Blanche Toole, "Gooch, C.P. (married) R.J. Harper 3 July 1888 by M. Youngblood. Based on the following census records, it appears she was born in approximately 1868, and would have been about 20 years old when she married.
Roxie appears to be the daughter of James Robert Harper and Delia Rice, both of whom were born in Mississippi. At the time of the 1880 Sabine County census, they had a 12 year old daughter named Jane. There are no other Harper families in Sabine county with a daughter of that age.

The historical church and cemetery have served local families for several years. The land was owned by James Robert Harper and he was the first person buried there when he died in 1896. There are now 189 graves in the cemetery. The church no longer holds regular worship services but is still a place used for funerals, weddings, and other special occasions. In the photo above, Douglas YOUNGBLOOD and Jessie ENER unveiled the historical markers for the Harper Chapel Cemetery. At left, Frankie YOUNGBLOOD and Shay FELTS are shown as the unveiled the marker for the Harper Chapel Cemetery. Each of these people is a direct descendant of James Robert Harper. The Sons of Confederate Veterans also conducted a dedication in the winter of 2007, according to the December 19, 2007 issue of the Sabine County Reporter. Sergeant Harper served in Co. G, 15th Texas Calvary.
