Roy Gene White

Roy Gene White, 67, of Hemphill died at 7:25 a.m. Friday, March 28, 2003 at his residence. He was born Jan. 25, 1936, in Pineland as a son of the late Cladie Bell (HARLEY) and David Alton WHITE and had been a lifelong resident of the Sabine County area. He was a logger and a member of the Church of God. Survivors: wife, Mildred DAVIS White of Hemphill, sons, Robert Gene WHITE of Minden, Louisiana, and Danny Alvin WHITE of Hemphill, daughters Jean Marie CAMMACK of Lufkin, Deborah Sue HADDOCK of Arlington, and Lisa Lynn GIPSON of Bronson; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Riley WHITE. Funeral services were held 4 p.m. Saturday at Strickland Crossing Church of God on FM 2024 with the pastor, Bro. Vance Purtell, and Bro. Floyd Wright, pastor of Rosevine Church of God, officiating. Interment followed at Lott Cemetery. Starr Funeral Home Inc., Hemphill, directors.

Cladie Bell White, 86, of Hemphill died Dec. 16, 2001, at her residence.

Mrs. White, born Sept. 13, 1915, in Ragley as a daughter of the late Eula (Brown) and James Harley, had been a longtime resident of Sabine County and a member of the Hemphill Church of God.

Survivors: a son, Roy Gene White of Hemphill; sisters, Cleo Brown, Callie Mae Easley, and Clovis Conner, all of Hemphill; ten grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David "Tut" White, and sons, Felton White and Billy White.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at Strickland Chapel Church of God on FM 2024 with Bro. Carl Maxey officiating. Interment followed at Lott Cemetery.

Riley married Lutie Wright. Lutie was born on 2 Apr 1927 in San Augustine County, Texas; died on 25 Nov 2013 in Lufkin, Angelina County, Texas; was buried in Hebron Cemetery, San Augustine County, Texas. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Services for Lutie Davis, 86, of Lufkin, will be held in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. P. A. DuBose and Tracy Lane officiating. Interment will follow in the Hebron Cemetery in Broaddus.

Mrs. Davis was born April 2, 1927 in San Augustine County, Texas, the daughter of the late Winnie Iverna (Hickman) and Elbert Freddy Wright, and passed away November 25, 2013.

She attended school in Broaddus and at Massey School. She graduated from Vocational Nursing School at Memorial Hospital in Nacogdoches in 1967. She fulfilled a lifetime career of nursing until she retired in 2009. She married Riley Davis in 1941. She loved traveling, dancing and had a big heart. She was a loving mother and grandmother. Mrs. Davis was a member of Kelty's Baptist Church and Eastern Star Chapter # 291 in Jasper.

She is survived by daughter, Mildred White (Hemphill); son and daughter-in-law, Roy and Judy Davis (Lufkin); daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte and Larry Havard (Zavalla); daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Weldon Hunter (Diboll); brother, Orville Wright (Livingston); 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and special friends, Sara Costello and Wayne Small.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by husband, Riley Davis; son, Elbert Davis; 4 grandchildren; two sisters and one brother.

Also living with his family in 1920 was his niece, 11 year old Bessie Wood.

Per OLDTIMERS OF SABINE COUNTY "Mrs. Florence Carrico White celebrated her 87th birthday at her home in the Pinehill Community on Sunday, July 20, 1969. The day began pretty much as usual for Mrs. White, who lives alone, getting up a little later than she used to, to prepare her breakfast. A few friends and members of the family stopped in before she went to church to wish her well, but when the church services ended, Rev. Holt and the entire congregation went home with Mrs. White for a surprise birthday party. She was really surprised. Other friends and relatives were waiting there to help her celebrate with gifts and refreshments. Out of county visitors for the day included Mr. and Mrs. Alan V. White and infant son of Houston; Mr and Mrs Charlie Lane of Jasper, Mr and Mrs Lewis Rigsby and children, Cathy and Kyle, of Beaumont; and Miss Gale White of Nacogdoches. Mrs. White, the wife of the late R.W. White of Pinehill, was born in Panola County, near the little town of Gary. Her parents were William David and Mary Charlotte Gary Carrico, the daughter of James Henry Gary, born in Alabama. He came to East Texas with his brothers, Govey and Ike, and many of their descendants still live in East Texas. James Wilkerson, early Indian fighter and hero of San Jacinto, was Mrs. White's paternal grandparents (sic). He too left many descendants in East Texas."
