Franklin Knowles was the son of Ephraim Knowles (born about 1798 in Georgia; died 17 August 1882 in Montgomery Township, Gibson County, Indiana) and
Synthia (born about 1809 in Indiana; died after 1860). Ephraim and Synthia had several other children, all born in Indiana: John S. (born about 1823); Polly (born about 1828); Lucinda (born about 1830); James (born about 1832); Elizabeth (born about 1835); Irene P. (born about 1835); Mahala (born about 1837); Sally E. (born about 1838); Syntha (born about 1840); Jesse (born about 1843); Eli W. (born about 1844) and Comfort E. (born about 1847). Ephraim Knowles remarried 28 October 1866 in Vanderburgh County, Indiana to Louisa FAIRCHILD (bon about 1816 in Indiana).

KNOWLES--I am looking for the descendants of Franklin McCormic KNOWLES (born 20 April 1849, probably in Poseyville, Posey County, Indiana; died 18 February 1887 in Gibson County, Indiana) and Eliza Ellen (FAIRCHILD) KNOWLES VAUGHAN (born 31 January 1851 in Evansville, Vanderburgh County, Indiana; died 18 October 1910 in Poseyville, Posey County, Indiana). They married 14 April 1870 in Posey County and had 5 children: Elam Elmer Knowles (born about 1871 in Indiana), Gracey Knowles, Alvus O. Knowles, Orva V. Knowles,
and Martha Knowles. They were in the 1870 and 1880 censuses in Montgomery Township, Gibson County, Indiana.

After Franklin's death, Eliza remarried 14 September 1893 in Posey County to Elbert B. Vaughan (born 9 November 1855; died 6 December 1898) and had one child from that union, my great-grandmother, Medreth Elberta Vaughan (born 5 March 1895 in Poseyville, Posey County, Indiana; died 10 September 1987 in Lawton , Oklahoma). Eliza and daughter Medreth are in the 1900 census for Posey County in the household of Eliza's father, Elam Fairchild.

When Eliza died in 1910, Medreth (age 15) was orphaned, so she was sent to live with her uncle John Fairchild in Oklahoma. I'd be interested to know of any descendants of her half-siblings, as well as ancestors on the Knowles side (Ephraim's parents were supposedly born in Delaware), as I haven't any information on that branch. "...not related, just trying to help. I found Christopher's marriage in 2 different databases. In both the marriage took place in Vanderburgh county on 16 Oct 1823. In the one on ancestry.com the brides name is listed as Morgan Rose. In the other in the Indiana State Library her name is listed as Maryan Rose. I also found the following marriages in Vanderburgh county for Linkswilers or variations thereof. Phebe married Benjamin Rose on 14 Feb 1821. Mary married Wellis Rose on 28 Apr 1825. Jane married Jackson Rose on 28 Jan 1841. Martha married Joseph Stephens on 18 Jan 1844. Isaac married Sally Rose on 31 Mar 1825. Mary Elizabeth married Jesse Parsons on 1 Mar 1846. Good luck. Don"
