    Heart Attack Fatal for Miss Thelma Hunt

    Funeral services for Miss Thelma J. Hunt, 54, esteemed teacher at Cass City High School, were held at 2 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Church in Cass City.

    Miss Hunt came to Cass City from Roosevelt High School in Ypsilanti. In the more than seven years she taught here, she became a valued member of the school staff and student leader.

    School was dismissed Tuesday afternoon so that teachers and friends could attend the final rites. A collection was taken by her students. Part of the money contributed was used for flowers and the remainder will be used for a memorial that will be displayed at the school.

    Miss Hunt was born in Cass City, Nov. 29, 1900, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hunt. She graduated from Cass City High School with high honors and earned Phi Beta Kappa honors at the University of Michigan from where she graduated in 1928. In 1937 she received her M.A. degree from U. of M.

    She had a long, succesful career. Following her graduation, she taught in Ida and Ionia before acceptign a position at Ypsilanti where she taught from 1935 to 1948.

    At Ypsilanti she was a critic teacher and at Cass City she taught English and Latin.

    First signs of her fatal illness were reported Thursday, Oct. 27. She called authorities in the morning, saying she was ill. However, she later decided to go to school anyway. Later in the morning she complained of a pain in the chest and left arm and a physician was called.

    She was taken to Pleasant Home Hospital by ambulance where she died Saturday, Nov. 12.

    Miss Hunt was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Presbytherian Guild, Michigan Education Association and Hobby Club.

    Surviving are: two sisters, Mrs. William (Catherine) Wyman of Trenton and Miss Betty Hunt of Detroit; a brother, Russell, of Birmingham, and an uncle, George BURG of Cass City.

    Rev. Melvin R. Vender, Presbyterian pastor, officiated at the funeral and burial was in Elkland Cemetery.

    Business Man Here 37 Years Died on Sunday Morning

    Harry L. Hunt Served his Community Many Years as Clerk, Assessor

    Harry L. Hunt, prominent in business and political circles in Cass city of many years, passed away at Pleasant Home Hospital early Sunday morning. He had been taken seriously ill while at work in his greenhouse the previous Tuesday.

    Harry Lewis Hunt was born in Ontario, September 13, 1873, and came with his family to Michigan when a small child, locating at Caro. He was employed in Caro until he was 20 years of age and the remainder of his life was spent in Cass City.

    For a time he was employed int he general store of his uncle, T. H. Hunt. In 1899, he entered business for himself, conducting a grocery store her for six years. Since 1905, he has conducted a florist shop and greenhouse in Cass City, and in recent years, he has been assisted by Lewis Hunt, his son, as a partner in the business.

    Mr. Hunt served Elkland towship as clerk and Cass City Village as assessor for many years. He also held the offices of township and village treasurer.

    He was married to Miss Minnie Burg February 16, 1898, who also survives him. He also leaves three daughters, Thelma Hunt of Ypsilanti, Catherine Hunt of Trenton, and Betty Hunt of Detroit; two sons, Lewis Hunt of Cass City and Russell Hunt of New Baltimore; two brothers, Norman Hunt of Pass-a-Grille, Florida, and Bert Hunt of Kelso, Washington; and a sister, Mrs. Nellie Haefling, Honolulu, Hawaii.

    Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock by Rev. Stanley P. Kirn, minister of the Evangelical Church, at the family residence. Burial was made in Elkland Cemetery. Local business houses were closed during the funeral hour. Pallbearers were O.W. Nique, E.W. Kercher, Calvin J. Striffler, Stanley Muntz, John Ball and Leonard Striffler.

    Mr. Hunt was a good husband, a kind and loving father and a neighbor always willing to help wherever he could. He will be greatly missed by the entire community.

    Funeral of Mrs. H.L. Hunt Held Today

    Mrs. Harry L. Hunt passed away early Wednesday morning in her home, following a stroke which she suffered about a week ago. She had been poorly for about eight years.

    Funeral services will be conducted today (Friday) at 2 p.m. in the Evangelical Church by Rev. S.P. Kirn and interment will be made in Elkland cemetery.

    Minnie Burg was born in the state of New York May 16, 1875, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Peter Burg. At the age of six years, she came to this county with her family, where she has since resided. On Feb. 16, 1898, she was united in marriage with Harry L. Hunt, who preceded her in death January 25, 1942. For six years Mr. and Mrs. Hunt conducted a grocery and china store in Cass City and in 1907 they established a greenhouse which is now being conducted by their son, Lewis Hunt.

    Mrs. Hunt is survived by three daughters, Miss Thelma Hunt, a teacher in Ypsilanti high school, Mrs. William Wyman of Trenton, Mich., and Miss Betty Hunt of Detroit, two sons, Lewis of Cass City and Russell of Farmington, and one brother, George Burg, of Cass City.

    Peter Burg Passed Away New Years

    Paralysis the Cause of Death of Cass City Resident for 40 Years

    Peter Burg, a resident of Cass City for 42 years, passed away at his home on Houghton street east, New Years morning at the age of 70 years. Mr. Burg has been afflicted with rheumatism for a number of years and was taken with a stroke of paralysis a few days before his death.

    Funeral services were held at the Evangelical church of which Mr. Burg has been a member for several years on Thursday afternoon, Jan. 4. Rev. F.L. Pohly, the pastor, officiated.

    Mr. Burg was born in Winden, Germany, Aug. 1, 1843. He came to America at the age of 22 years, settling at Newstead, N.Y. He was united in marriage with Miss Elizabeth Striffler on July 29, 1874, and they came to Cass City in 1880 where they have since resided. Four children were born to them, one dying in infancy.

    Besides his wife, he leaves one brother, Jacob Burg of Clarence, N.Y., and one son, George Burg, and two daughters, Mrs. H. L. Hunt and Miss Emma Burg, all of Cass City.

    Mrs. Peter Burg Died at Age of 80

    Mrs. Peter Burg passed away at her home Sunday evening at six o'clock, after a brief illness of bronchial pneumonia. Althought in failing health this winter, she was only confined to her bed for two days when she was called to her reward.

    Elizabeth Striffler was born at Lancaster, Erie county, New York, January 6, 1848, and had attained the age of eighty years, one month, and 28 days. She was united in marriage with Peter Burg July 29, 1874. They came to Cass City in 1880, and endured the hardships of the fire in the spring of 1881.

    Mrs. Burg was converted in her youth, and after coming to Michigan, united with the Evangelical church at Cass City, of which she was a faithful attendant while health permitted.

    She was a woman of quiet disposition, a good neighbor, devoted to her family and ready to help whenever she could.

    The funeral service was held in the Evangelical church Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock and was attended by a large circle of relatives and friends showing the esteem in which she was held.

    She leaves to mourn her demise three children, Mrs. Harry L. Hunt, Miss Emma and George Burg, all of this place, also five grandchildren. Her husband died five years ago on New Years day and one son died in infancy. She also leaves one brother, Charles D. Striffler, of Cass City. Two sisters and two brothers preceded her in death.

    Relatives from out of town who atteded the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. O.W. Nique of Decker, Mr. and Mrs. R.E. Graham and son, Caro, Kenneth Striffler of Detroit and Mrs. Katherine Much of Colwood.
