Perhaps his record and that of his father, for whom he was named, were confused. The report of his marriage, published in the September 1, 1958 issue of the STRIFFLER-BENKELMAN BROADCAST, notes that he was the great grandson of David Striffler.

    Notes:

    At the time of the 1880 census, he appears to have moved to Michigan and was living in the home of John Striffler and his wife, Maria Benkelman, in Cass City, Michigan.

    Mr. and Mrs. G.A. Striffler and William Paul returned last Thursday from a week's visit with Irvine Striffler at Brocksville, Ontario. The trip was by the way of Toronto, Kingston, and at Brantford the part visited Mr. Paul's sister-in-law, Mrs. Hally Laird. At Brockford, they also visited Mr. and Mrs. Mason Wilson and took trips to Ottwaw, Chesterville and Quebec. On the return journey, they crossed the St. Lawrence river by ferry to Morristown, New York, and in LOCKPORT, N.Y., visited at the homes of George STRIFFLER, Philip STRIFFLER (??) , Van STRIFFLER, and Jacob MUCK. The party also visited Niagra Falls. On their way home, they were held up for 3 1/2 hours just before reaching Watertown, N.Y. because of deep snow.

    Lockport Union Sun & Journal, May 6, 1919: Phillip Striffler died at his residence at the Rapids May 6th a.m., aged 57 years. He leaves besides his bereaved wife one son, Van G. of the Rapids, also his mother, Mrs. David Striffler of Penn, and three brothers, John of this city, Ed. of Penn., George of town of Lockport, and one sister, Mrs. B.S. Lazelle of Jamestown, N.Y. Funeral will be held Wednesday, May 7th at 2 o'clock from the house; which will be private. Interment will be in Beamen's cemetery.

    Mrs. Phillip Striffler, who has often visited in Cass City, died Saturday in the home of her son, Van Striffler, in Lockport, New York. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. Striffler was 79 years of age and had been sick since April. Her husband, who passed away several years ago, was a cousin of the Strifflers in this vicinity.

    Lockport Sun & Journal, July 8, 1940: STRIFFLER. Maria J., age 80 years, passed away Sunday, July 7, at the residence of her son Van Striffler, Ertman Road, Town of Royalton. Survived by one son and five granchildren. Funeral will be held from her late residence Tuesday at 3 p.m. D.S.T. Burial in Bemans cemetery, Clarence.

    Ruth Marcetti showed his death date as 30 December 1871, but Carole Jean Benkelman who has a photo of his headstone, states that it instead shows Dec. 30, 1872. The headstone is further inscribed "Erected by the Lancaster Benevolent Association of Which He was the First President."

    March 6, 1924, probably from the Beaver Daily Times: Obituary for Mrs. Sophia Seyboth: Mrs. Sophia Seyboth, aged 83, of New Sewickley township, died yesterday afternoon at the family home from complications, due to old age.

    Surviving is her husband one son and two daughters. Funeral services will be held from the Rehoboth Lutheran church of which the deceased is a member Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Interment will be made in the Rehoboth Lutheran cemetery.
