Married:
James Reynolds Barclay, a grandson of Alef McGown Reynolds, noted that researchers sometimes incorrectly show John Henry McGown and Kirby McGown, born 1905, as twins. This is incorrect, as their is only one John Henry Kirby McGown, and he died in 1979. However, there were a set of tiwns that died at birth around 1910, and are believed to be buried in an unmarked grave in the McGown family cemetery, and perhaps this what has lead to the confusion.

His widow, Lydia, applied for a Confederate Pension on 17 May 1909 in Sabine County, Texas. She showed that they were married on 18 Sept 1860 in Georgia and that he died on 2 May 1897 in Sabine County.
