    William McLemore
    William McLemore, 63, lifetime Princeton resident died Sunday at 6:15 p.m. in Gibson General Hospital after a short illness. Mr. McLemore was born February 28, 1906 in Temple, Ind. in Crawford County. He had been a Cab driver for City Cab the past 20 years. He attended the House of Prayer. Mr. McLemore was member of VFW 1147 and a Veteran of World War II. Surviving are his wife, Laura McLemore; one daughter, Mrs. Anita Beard of Princeton; two sons, Jim McLemore and William Shoulders both of Princeton; one brother, Guy McLemore of Oak Ridge, Tenn. and 2 grandchildren. Services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Colvin Chapel with Rev. James Miller officiating. Friends may call at Colvin & Son Mortuary after 3 p.m. Tuesday.

    On his application for a Social Security account, completed on August 27, 1937, he listed his date of birth as February 28, 1907 in Temple, Indiana. It is assumed this date is more accurate, as it was completed by William himself, than the date in his obituary. His parents were shown as Wright McLemore and Sarah Longust. His employer at that time was Thomas Christian of Princeton.

    William married Laura Ann Acree. Laura (daughter of James Madison Acree and Angeline Rice Allison) was born on 1 Jul 1912 in Shoals, Martin County, Indiana; died on 16 Sep 2005 in Princeton, Gibson County, Indiana; was buried in Columbia Church Cemetery, Princeton, Gibson County, Indiana.     Shooting Victim Dies;Hold Woman

    Mrs. Iva Waugh, 38 years old, 642 N. First St., was arrested at noon Monday by Detectives W. & R. Thompson, and sent to jail on a charge of vagrancy and to be held for the grand jury in connection with the shooting on Sept. 28 of James Acree, 68 years old. Acree died at St. Anthony's hospital monday morning. At the time of the shooting Acree was a roomer at 630 S. First St. According to the report made to the police at that time, Mrs. Waugh said they heard a noise in front of their home and that her husband Earl Waugh, upon going to investigate found Acree in his automobile. An argument ensued, she told the police, and at that time Acree drew a gum upon her husband. In the tussle that followed Acree was shot in the arm and Earl Waugh in the stomach. Waugh recovered but Acree died at the hospital monday morning.

    James Acree, 68 years old, died at St. Anthony's hospital monday morning at 2 o'clock. He was injured in a shooting from last Sept. 28 and death came from infection. Surviving Acree are 5 daughters, Mrs. Mattie Almo and Mrs. Vada Schell, both of Terre Haute; Mrs. Minnie Eberhart of Newcomers Town, Ohio, Mrs. Dora Tedrow of Shoals, and Mrs. Laura McLemore of Princeton, Ind.; a son George Acree of this city; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren The body was taken to Gillis funeral home and later to the residence of Mrs. Vada Schell 1624 Second Ave. where funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock with burial in Grandview cemetery.

    Deaths Angeline Rice Acree

    Angeline Rice Acree, 60 years old, died at the residence, 1305 N. 19th St., at 10:50 o'clock Sunday night. She is survived by the husband James; 5 daughters, Mrs. Dora Pedrow of Shoals, Mrs. Vada Schell, Mrs. Mattie Allsman, and Mrs. Minnie Everhart all of Terre Haute, and Mrs. Laura McLemore of Princeton; 1 son George, and 2 sisters, Mrs. Laura Brown and Mrs. Minnie Greenleigh of Alga, Ky. The body waas taken to the Gillis funeral home and returned to the residence Monday afternoon from where funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock with burial in Grandview cemetery.

    Notes:

    Paul Williams notes that "Nancy Ann is daughter of Thomas Kirby [also of Rockcastle Co.] please note the surname Kirby is [sic] Curby in some of earlier census records." He later added that Nancy's mother was Elizabeth Ecton/Acton.

    Paul showed her as born ca 1836 in Kentucky. The 1900 census shows her instead as born in May 1840, also in Kentucky.

    She was living with her son Thomas G. McLemore and his family at the time of the 1910 Rockcastle, Kentucky census. She was listed as age 73, widowed, the mother of 8 children all still living, and born in Kentucky to parents also born in Kentucky.

    Paul Williams writes that "John D. & Nancy Ann [Kirby] McLemore ---appear {as you have} in 18880 census, and they also are mentioned in a land transaction in Rockcastle Co., KY dated 1883: hence, their death after 1883?"
