Frank and his father were certified members of the Red Polled Cattle Club. They operated a dairy, delivering fresh bottled milk and cream to Milligan residents and businesses. Cows were hand-milked, and glass bottles were washed and sterilized by hand. The dairy was closed during World War II when the children were no longer there to help run it. (Milligan, p 307).

Frank married Anna Herynk on 22 Feb 1909 in Geneva, Fillmore County, Nebraska. Anna (daughter of Anton Herynk and Terezie Vejraska) was born on 10 Oct 1885 in Fillmore County, Nebraska; died on 22 Feb 1978 in Fillmore County, Nebraska; was buried in Bohemian National Cemetery (Milligan South), Milligan, Fillmore County, Nebraska. They met at the Milligan Catholic Church which they both attended. Frank and Anna went to Geneva, Nebraska, by horse and carriage, to be married on February 22, 1909. The day began very sunny and clear, but by the time the newleyweds had reached the bride's family home, nearly 12 inches of snow had fallen. Frank and Anna, along with four other couples, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Capek, Mr. and Mrs. James Kotas, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Capek and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Schultz were married at the same time by Judge Fulton. (Milligan, p 307).

A 1901 graduate of Milligan High School, Frank helped his father with his carpentry work, and took up farming in 1903. (Milligan, p 292). He also worked as a Millman.

Frank married Lula Cudly on 9 Mar 1910 in Geneva, Fillmore County, Nebraska. Lula (daughter of Jan "John" Cudly and Marie "Mary" Buzek) was born on 5 Mar 1891 in Hayes County, Nebraska; died on 19 Mar 1971 in Friend, Saline County, Nebraska. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Lula and Frank farmed on the BIBA farm four miles west of Milligan after their marriage. They later moved to Grandma HAVEL's farm, where their two daughters were born. In early 1927, they farmed on Grandpa CUDLY's land. In 1952, Frank began employment with the KASSIK Milling Company, where he remained employed until 1968. (Milligan, p 293).

John learned his father's trade of blacksmith. He served in the army in Europe, and came to America at age 22, leaving his family behind. When he arrived in Exeter, Nebraska, he was met by Mr. SLUKA, who he had known in the old country. John practiced the trade of blacksmith and horticulturist while in the army. Neighbors helped him put up a blacksmith shop and purchase tools. His parents were Tomas HROMADKA and Josephine HALOCH. His two sisters were Mary Hromadka, wife of Emil FRANTA of Omaha. His other sister, Rose Hromadka, married Emanuel HAVELKA of Rice Lake, Wisconsin. (Milligan, p 309-310).

John married Anna Kral on 24 Feb 1879 in Fillmore County, Nebraska. Anna (daughter of John Kral and Josephine Hrudicka) was born on 20 Jul 1862 in Nebraska; died on 27 Oct 1922 in Nebraska; was buried in Bohemian National Cemetery (Milligan South), Milligan, Fillmore County, Nebraska. They traveled to America with the John CAPEK family, arriving at Exeter April 27, 1880. They were brought to the Anton and Frank SVEC home, and assisted them in brick making. They later purchased the n 1/2 SW 1/4 of Section 27, Glengary Township, from John VEJRASKA, and adding the S 1/2 of this quarter section in January of 1892, buying it from Vaclav VEJRASKA. (Milligan, p 299).

Anton married Terezie Vejraska. Terezie (daughter of Jan Vejraska and Rosalie Sladek) was born on 15 Oct 1852 in Lodenice, Nov? Married:
The biography of Anton J. Capek, Jr. in the Milligan book list his grandparents as "Joseph and Marie Vejraska Herynk," and goes on to note that they "came to America with the Capeks in 1880." (p 233). Their oldest son was born and died in Bohemia before they emigrated to the United States. (p 299).

Notes:

John W. HAVEL was the son of Catherine PETRICKA and Jacob HAVEL. He immigrated to Minnesota in 1867. An August 28, 1903 issue of the Milligan Times it was written that "He was a member of the Posse that chased the Jesse James gang out of Minnesota after they had looted a bank." His obituary noted that "He was a carpenter by trade and many buildings hereabouts will long attest to his labors; but at the time of his death he was farming on his place in Liberty Township." (Milligan, p 295).

The daughter of Fannie BARIKOVA and Joseph KREJDLE. She immigrated to the United States in 1875 with her parents and sister Marie, who married Peter BARTU.

The 1910 Fillmore County, Nebraska census indicates she was the mother of 15 children, 10 of them still living.

Immediately after their marriage, John and Marie moved to Hayes County to homestead. After proving their land, they moved to Saline county, where they farmed for eight years, and then to Fillmore County, where they farmed for an additional 26 years until their retirement. (Milligan, p 255).
