Virgie Speights, in a biography of Imboden Boyd written September, 1966, stated that he was a grandson of Joseph Boyd, and great grandson of John Boyd, who came from Nashville, Tennessee in 1835, to settle at Milam, to serve as a Senator in the Republic of Texas, as a sheriff of Sabine County, as well as holding other important positions in early Texas.

"Received a land grant from the Republic of Texas (bro. of John Franklin McGown). Alex H. McGown was sherriff of Sabine County for many years. All these McGowns are buried in the Browning Cemetery on the Camino Real near Milam." (White and Toole, p 52).

In a 1966 article about the Golden Wedding anniversary of Onie Griffin and Imboden Boyd, Virgie Speights wrote that Onie's great grandfather was W. H. Griffin, who came as a boy of 17 years with the Boyd family to Texas (circa 1835).

Thomas married Rebecca Clark in 1844. Rebecca (daughter of William Clark and Elizabeth Isaacs) was born about 1826 in Texas; died before 1880. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

"The father of "Kit" Huffman was thought to be John [Huffman]...also the father of Asa (Jasper Co.) Owen Huffman who also came to Sabine Co. and Leah and Penny who remained in N.C. The family emigrated from Germany and spelled their name Hoffman."

Was shown on the muster roll of Captain J.M. Burroughs Company of the Sabine County Volunteer Infantry, CSA, and was enlisted at Hemphill, Texas by Drury Field for 3 months duty on January 15, 1863.

At the time of the 1810 Federal census, he was enumerated with his daughter and son-in-law, Callie and Thomas McBride, in Sabine County, Texas.
