    At the time of the 1930 Federal Census, Verdie and Sue Bright were rooming together in the First Precinct of Houston, Harris County, Texas, Block 2469, West Grey. Verdie wsa a Clerk for a lumber company and Sue was a stenographer at the Sheriff's office. Sue later married a Mr. JAMESON.

    SABINE COUNTY SHERIFF KILLED BY LOUISIANA NEGRO
    Special to the Times

    Hemphill, Texas, Jan 16 - Sheriff C. B. Bright of Sabine County was killed last night in a pistol duel with Time Battle, a negro, said to be a fugitive from Louisiana for the alleged killing of two white men several days ago.

    The negro was shot and killed by deputies who accompanied Sheriff Bright. The negro had been located in the cabin of another negro and the attempt to arrest him was made when the shooting started. The other negro and his wife disappeared during the progress of the fight.

    At that time (of the fire of Feb 26, 1918, the Williams) hotel was being managed by County Sheriff Bosco Bright and his wife, Nettie, who was a sister of Sim Williams. They were the parents of Sid Bright. (White and Toole, p 68).

    Hemphill, Dec 5 (spl) - Mr. and Mrs. T. V. Parker were called to Nacogdoches for the funeral of Mrs. Parker's aunt, Mrs. Nettie Bright, 87.

    Funeral services were held in Cason and Monk Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Neal Cannon, district superintendent Methodist Conference, officiating. He was assisted by the Rev. Mr. Chapman, pastor of First Methodist Church, Nacogdoches. Burial was in a Nacogdoches cemetery.
    Mrs. Bright was a native of Hemphill and member of a prominent pioneer family.

    She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Sue Jameson and Mrs. Verde Arnold of Houston, and Mrs. Hattie Smith and Mrs. Lois Hale of Nacogdoches; two sons, Sid Bright of Natchitoches, La. and Charles Rutledge, Beaumont; one brother, George Williams of Alton; and one sister, Mrs. John Bright of Pasadena and numerous nieces and nephews."

    On the "Betts-Tuttle-Roedel-Lang" tree at RootsWeb, he was shown as married first to Martha Ann Culver on 27 Jan 1846 Muscogee County, GA and second to Ann Elizabeth Biggs on 8 Apr 1847 in Talbot County, GA. This does not match census records, or Sabine County burial records. These same marriages are shown on the "Ancestors of William Gene Bowman" tree at RootsWeb.

    There appears to have been two Simon/Simeon Bickleys in Georgia. The Simeon Bickley that married Harriette Culver can be found, with Harriett in his household, in Talbot County, GA in 1850 and 1860, in Harris County, GA in 1870, and in Sabine County, Texas in 1880.
