Noah Almanza Merrill

(Research):"History of Whiteside county, Illinois from its First settlement to Present Time," Charles Bent, Editor (Published in Morrison, Illinois, 1877) shows that Almanza was born to Noah Merrill (1809-1873) and Amanda Lewis. (p. 130).

Noah married Lucinda McLemore on 13 Aug 1853 in Whiteside County, Illinois. Lucinda (daughter of John W. McLemore and Eliza Cantrell) was born in Nov 1835 in Illinois; and died. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Since Edward Forest was b. IL, we looked in the IL 1860 census for Almanzer. We found what we
believe to be him in Mt Morecy, Whiteside Co IL: A. H., 30, b. OH; Lucinda, 25; Frank W, 5,
both b. IL. The History of Whiteside Co IL gives the family of Noah and Amanda Lewis as:
Almamza, 1831 june 11; Seth R, 1832 Dec. 19; Zelemma 1835 Oct. 24; Nelson B 1838 Nov. 6.
The 1850 census in Whiteside Co IL gives this family group [minus Noah who was in the CA gold
rush at the time] plus Noah' s mother, Zulema (Flower) Merrill, 80, b. CT nearby. The lineage of
Almanzer (8) is Noah (7,6), Icabod (5), Noah (4), Isaac (3), John (2), Nathaniel (1).

1. Frank W. Merrill was born about 1856 in Illinois; and died.
2. Edward Forrest Merrill was born on 8 Apr 1867 in Sterling, Whiteside County, Illinois; died on 16 Apr 1933 in Independence, Inyo County, California.
