Generation: 1

  1. 1.  Frank S. Carter was born on 5 Jun 1861 in Mississippi (son of William P. Carter and Sarah Mildred Pickle); died on 9 Oct 1861 in Mississippi.

Generation: 2

  1. 2.  William P. Carter was born about 1835 in Clarke County, Mississippi (son of Allen Alexander Carter and Sarah "Sally" McLemore); died on 10 Mar 1867 in Mississippi.

    Notes:

In December, 2001, Bobby Carter posted, on the Carter Family Genealogy Forum at Genforum, that "William, b abt 1835, died 1869 in MS probably from pneumonia (his wife Sarah Pickle and surviving child migrate to Texas following his death)."

    http://genforum.genealogy.com/carter/messages/11601.html

William married Sarah Mildred Pickle on 23 Oct 1853. Sarah was born in Oct 1834 in Florida; and died. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 3.  Sarah Mildred Pickle was born in Oct 1834 in Florida; and died.

    Notes:

    Married:
Sarah Mildred Pickle married William P. Carter (8 Oct 1835, Clarke Co, MS, to 10 Mar 1867, MS) 23 Oct 1853. Sarah migrated to Texas following death of her husband. Their children were:
    1-Columbus A. Carter, 25 Feb 1856 to 16 Jun 1863, MS.
2-Phoebe Ann Sarah Carter, 28 Feb 1858, MS. By my records she died 16 Jul 1937 in Jim Wells Co, TX. Married William T. Machen 12 Mar 1874, Lampasas Co., TX.
    3-Anna Carter, 5 Apr 1860 to 10 Oct 1861, MS.
    4-Frank S. Carter, 5 Jun 1861 to 9 Oct 1861, MS.
5-Marshall Ney Carter, b. 22 Sep 1867, TX. Died abt 1933 in Jan Juan, TX. Married Catherine B. Lucas 30 Sep 1888, Lampasas Co, TX.

William P. Carter's parents were Allen Alexander Carter, born about 1810, possibly in SC, and probably died in TX after 1880 (last record I have is the 1880 census, Lampasas Co, TX), and Sarah McLemore Carter. I'm trying to find information to prove or disprove Allen's parents as Jacob and Sarah Carter. This particular Jacob would have been born about 1779 (possibly in SC), migrated to MS about 1812/1813 (without stopping in GA), and died 30 Nov 1844 in Lauderdale Co, MS.

I descend from one Hansford Barnwell Carter, one of William's younger brothers.

    Children:
    1. Columbus A. Carter was born on 25 Feb 1856; died on 16 Jun 1863 in Mississippi.
    2. Phoebe Ann Sarah Carter was born on 28 Feb 1858 in Mississippi; died on 18 Apr 1937 in Corpus Christi, Nueces County, Texas.
    3. Anna Carter was born on 5 Apr 1860 in Mississippi; died on 10 Oct 1861 in Mississippi.
    4. 1. Frank S. Carter was born on 5 Jun 1861 in Mississippi; died on 9 Oct 1861 in Mississippi.
    5. Marshall Ney Carter was born on 22 Sep 1867 in Rockwall County, Texas; died on 18 Feb 1947 in Hidalgo County, Texas.

Generation: 3

  1. 4.  Allen Alexander Carter was born about 1810 in South Carolina; and died.

    Notes:

In December, 2001, Bobby Carter posted, on the Carter Family Genealogy Forum at Genforum:

"My, and others, research shows (not totally proven) that Allen Alexander was one of about five children born to Jacob Carter (born about 1799, South Carolina, died abt 1844 Lauderdale Co, MS), and Sarah (LNU).

Allen Alexander Carter was probably born in Barnwell District, South Carolina, about 1810, and migrated with the family to MS about 1812/1813. Apparently this Carter line did not settle in Georgia.

Allen Alexander Carter was an early settler in Clarke Co, MS, and was enumerated in the 1840, 1850, and 1860 census in Clarke Co, MS.

Allen's mother was enumerated in his household in the 1850 census, but must have died before 1860 as she was not enumerated in his household then.

Allen's older brother Patrick died about 1859 and one of Patrick's sons (I think it was Jacob) was enumerated in Allen's household in 1860.

Allen Alexander Carter married Sarah McLemore. Allen Alexander Carter (probably displaced by the Civil War), wife, and some of the younger children migrated to Texas by about 1866. The last I have been able to locate on Allen Alexander Carter (listed as 80) and Sarah is that they were enumerated in the 1880 census in Lampasas Co, TX."

Bobby also provided a list of their children, along with the estimated years of birth of each.

"I don't recommend anyone going out there to look for folks not listed on your list as they won't find them. The only other option would be a week clean up detail for a few people, but I doubt any new readable stones would surface then. I didn't find my folks, nor did I "ever feel like I was in their presence. The search goes on."

Bobby is looking for Great Great Grandparents Allen Alexander Carter (1810-188+) and Sarah McLemore Carter (1819-188+) Allen Alexander (70) and Sarah (62) McLemore Carter were on the 1880 Lampasas census, but have not been found in any Lampasas cemetery.

Amos married Elizabeth Johnston about 1820. Elizabeth was born on 15 Feb 1802 in South Carolina; died on 31 Jul 1881 in Clarke County, Mississippi; was buried in McLemore Cemetery, Middleton, Clarke County, Mississippi. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 11.  Elizabeth Johnston was born on 15 Feb 1802 in South Carolina; died on 31 Jul 1881 in Clarke County, Mississippi; was buried in McLemore Cemetery, Middleton, Clarke County, Mississippi.

    Notes:

Some researchers show her as the daughter of Caleb Hill and Mary Flynt, and the sister of Nancy Perry Hill, who married Amos's brother, Richard McLemore. Others show her as Elizabeth Hill Johnson or Johnston, with their marriage taking place in Giles County, Tennessee. The Rev. William McLemore shows that according to correspondence and DAR records submitted to him by Joyce Sentell of Mobile, Alabama in 1996, her maiden name was Johnson. In May, 2008, Rev. Bill emailed that "An e-mail from a Ron Henson, 12 Feb 1998 says her surname was Johnston. She was born 15 Feb 1802 and died 31 July 1881. Their children were Albert Gallatin 1825, Richard, Caleb, John b. 1831, Catherine b. 1832, Nancy b. 1838, Elvira and Bettie. Harry McLemore of Jackson, MS, wrote me, "Amos lived in Clarke Co., in 1850. He later moved to Lauderdale Co. near Meridian and one time he lived in Copiah County."

    Notes:

    Married:
They are also shown by some researchers to be the parents of Sara McLemore, born 1819 and married a CARTER and Mary McLemore, born 1822 Lawrence County, Mississippi. This would fit with the 1830 census, which shows that the family had five girls under the age of 15 at that time.

    Children:
    1. 5. Sarah "Sally" McLemore was born about 1820 in Mississippi; and died.
    2. Louisa McLemore was born about 1821 in Mississippi; and died.
    3. Albert Gallatin McLemore was born on 25 Sep 1824 in Mississippi; died on 7 Mar 1874 in Clarke County, Mississippi; was buried in McLemore Cemetery, Middleton, Clarke County, Mississippi.
