He married about 1726, wife Deborah, of whom Benjamin Dwight wrote (maiden) "name carefully sought after but not found."

He is said to have received his name from the fact that he was born in a great snow storm and was preserved alive nonetheless. He removed from Northhampton to Lebanon, Ct., in 1714, and after 1720 to Coventry, Ct., and was one of the selectmen of Coventry in 1730, '31, '34, and '35. (Dwight, p 986).

Preserved married Tabitha Lee on 23 Oct 1701. Tabitha was born about 1677; died on 23 Jun 1750 in Coventry, Tolland County, Connecticut. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

The dau. of John LEE of Farmington, Ct., and Mary HART dau. of Stephen HART. It was the widow of this John LEE (Mrs. Mary LEE), that his father, Jedediah STRONG m. Jan. 5, 1692 as his third wife. (Dwight, p 986).

A farmer at Northampton until 1709, when at the age of 70 years and upwards he removed with his family to Coventry, Ct., where 24 years afterwards he d. May 22, 1733, aged 96; during the years 1677-8 & 9, he was paid 18 shillings a year for blowing the trumpet on Sunday to summon the people to church...Notwithstanding his three marriages spent 33 years as a widower, and 61 unmarried. (Dwight, p 769).

(Medical):Note: A direct male descendant of Elder John Strong, by his son John Jr. (from this first marriage) was notified as being a High Resolution DNA match on two descendants of John Jr's half brother, Jedediah Strong.

Kit #7257 was through Jedediah>Preserved>Enoch Strong

Kit #15744 represents an interesting case. The participant, surnamed "Dotson", is a member of a family group which has been "quietly told" their parents were the children of Jedediah Strong VII. With the exception of this family legend, there has been no other proof of the relationship until now. There is an exact match in the first 12 markers (STR) of Kit #15744 with the first 12 markers of both Kits #6811 & 7257. As previously anticipated, the second 13 markers (PP3) matched the "Assumed New England Strong Haplotype", marking members of the Elder John Strong lineages.

Dau. of Henry WOODWARD, afterwards of Northhampton, and "one of the pillars of the church," there, and Elizabeth, his wife. (Dwight, p 669). The Strong Family Association of America website further notes that "Martin Smith of Pocumtuck, was fined 20s for trying to kiss Freedom (Woodward) Strong on the street. She was 32 at the time and the mother of 8 children. Her father, Henry Woodward, was a physician and was licensed to sell wines and liquors and had a grist mill in Northampton."
