    Prominent Retired Mortician
    Naaman Karr Instantly Killed in Auto Crash

    Naaman Karr, 79, of Kingston was instantly killed Wednesday afternoon when a care he was riding in collided with a vehicle driven by Mrs. Marr, Flint, on M-21.

    The crash occured with Mrs. Marr attempted to make a right-hand turn into a gas station and was struck by a care driven by Amber Jones, Kingston.

    Both Mrs. Marr and Mr. Jones are in a Flint hospital, badly injured.

    Mr. Karr was well known in the Cass City area. He moved her from his birthplace in Seagraves, Canada, with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Palmer Karr, at the age of eight.

    While still a young man, he moved to Kingston and was in the funeral business there for 50 years. He sold his business and retired Sept. 1, 1951.

    Funeral services have been arranged for Saturday at the Methodist Church in Kingston. Burial will be in the Elkland Towship Cemetery, Cass City.

    Surviving are his widow, Ethel; two sons, Mark of Onaway and Harold of Alpena; a stepson, William Ruhl of Pontiac; four grandchildren, and several nieces.

    Mrs. N Karr Laid to Rest Sunday

    Alice Maud Karr, wife of Naaman Karr, funeral director of Kingston, died at Port Huron hospital on Thursday, May 24, following an operation for sinus trouble.

    The news of her death was a great shock to the community. Mrs. Karr was of a very genial disposition and was held in the highest esteem by all who knew her, as was seen by the very many beautiful floral tributes and the large number of friends that attended the funeral. She was always ready to help in any way possible-- the church, the various organizations, and the community at large, and will be greatly missed by all.

    She leaves to mourn their loss her husband, one daughter, Mrs. Fred McCurdy of North Branch, two sons, Harold of Lincoln and Mark at home; one grandson, Frederick McCurdy, two sisters, five brothers and a large number of friends.

    Funeral services were held form the Methodist Episcopal church at Kingston on Sunday afternoon May 27, amid every token of respect. Rev. Edward Hocking, pastor of the church officiated and was assisted by the Rev. B. A. Sherk pastor of the Baptist church, and Rev. D. J. Feather. Burial was at Elkland Cemetery. The service at the graveside was in charge of Puritan Chapter, No. 456, O. E. S., of Kingston, of which Mrs. Karr was a charter member.

    Those who attended the funeral from out of town were---Mrs. George Mithcell of Leslie, Dr. and Mrs. A. N. Treadgod, Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Tappson, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Oakley, Mr. Hollister, Mr. and Mrs. Haley, Mr. and Mrs. herman Kammer, Mr. and Mrs. J. Stewart and Ernest Mark, all of Detroit, E. C. Ogden of Mt. Clemens, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Jacques, and Mrs. Graham of Whittemore, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Brice, Jasper Darling of Flint, William E. Snelling and daughter, Letha and Mrs. Harrington of Bay City, Mr. and Mrs. Alton Currell of Flushing, and Mr. and Mrs. P.H. Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Teatz, Mrs. D. W. McCurdy of North Branch.

    Walter R. Mark died at Vegreville, Alberta, March 4, 1911. He was born in England in October, 1837. Moved to Ontario with his parents while still a small boy. In 1850 he married Miss Elizabeth McLean of Ontario. To this union were born eight children, five sons and three daughters, all of whom are living.
    He moved to Michigan in 1877, with his wife and children, living on a farm two miles north of Cass City. Mr. Mark also worked in the village for John Bader and David Spittler at the blacksmith trade.
    Mrs. Mark died in 1887 and in 1888 Mr. Mark was united to Mrs. Mary Jane Karr, who died October 11, 1910.
    Eleven years ago he went to Alberta with two sons-in- law, their wives and families, making his home there until his death. He leaves to mourn his death three daughters, Mrs. John Wright and Mrs. Wm. Muntz of Vegreville, Alberta, and Mrs. N. Karr of Kingston, and five sons, Archie, Walter, and John of this vicinity, Robert of Logvalley, Sask. and Thos. of Seattle, Wash. Also is grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
    The remains were brought to Cass City yesterday and the funeral service will be held at the home of Archie Marks this (Friday) afternoon at two o'clock.
