    From the Rootsweb ASHLEY-L Archives:

I have Ezekiel Ashley who was married to Piety Pridgen and later to Catherine
McLemore. I beleive he had a brother named James since he married Piety's
sister. I believe he was born in Al but that is all I know about where he
came from or his parents. If anyone has any info, I would love to hear from
    them.

Ezekiel married Catherine C. McLemore about 1852-1853 in Clarke County, Mississippi. Catherine (daughter of Amos McLemore, Jr. and Elizabeth Johnston) was born in Feb 1832 in Mississippi; died after 1910 in Oklahoma. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 5.  Catherine C. McLemore was born in Feb 1832 in Mississippi (daughter of Amos McLemore, Jr. and Elizabeth Johnston); died after 1910 in Oklahoma.

    Notes:

Not shown by Mark Freeman as a daughter of Amos and Elizabeth McLemore, but she is listed in their home at the time of the 1850 census, as well as being listed as a daughter by April Makerney. April further shows that she married Ezekial W. ASHLEY, born in Mobile, Alabama. Joyce Sentell confirms that she married a Mr. Ashley. He was said to have died in the Civil War, however, Confederate Pension records show him dying in 1888.

In 1880 she and Ezekiel were living with their children in Anderson County, Texas. In 1900, she was living with son George and his family, still in Anderson County.

In 1910, a Catherine Ashley , age 91 and born in Mississippi, was living in Caney, Atoka, Oklahoma with a John and Lulla Ashley. This MIGHT BE Catherine with her son John Ashley. However each of them are shown on that 1910 census as more than 10 years older than they are shown in most other records. At 91, Catherine would have been born in 1819, versus 1832. John Ashley was shown as being born in 1849, also in Mississippi, versus 1858.

    Notes:

    Married:
Clarke County, Mississippi marriage records show E.W. Ashley married Catherine FERGUSON (had Catherine McLemore married previously?) on 24 May 1853. She is shown as Catherine McLEMORE on the Texas Death certificates of two children by Ezekiel Ashley however, Confederate pension records show their marriage as taking place on 5 July 1852, also listing Clarke County, Mississippi as the location. Her maiden name is not listed on the pension.

    Children:
    1. J. L. Ashley was born about 1855 in Clarke County, Mississippi; and died.
    2. Mary Jane Ashley was born about 1856 in Clarke County, Mississippi; and died.
    3. John A. Ashley was born about 1858 in Clarke County, Mississippi; and died.
    4. W. W. Ashley was born about 1860 in Clarke County, Mississippi; and died.
    5. Victoria Ashley was born on 24 Feb 1864 in Mississippi; died on 1 Jan 1935 in Petersburg, Hale County, Texas.
    6. Amos Ashley was born about 1867 in Mississippi; and died.
    7. Elizabeth Ashley was born about 1868 in Mississippi; and died.
    8. James Ashley was born about 1870 in Mississippi; and died.
    9. 2. George Webster Ashley was born on 26 Oct 1870 in Meridian, Lauderdale County, Mississippi; died on 30 Jul 1947 in Wichita Falls State Hospital, Wichita Falls, Wichita County, Texas; was buried in Riverside Cemetery, Wichita Falls, Wichita County, Texas.
    10. Viola Ashley was born about 1874 in Mississippi; and died.

Amos married Elizabeth Johnston about 1820. Elizabeth was born on 15 Feb 1802 in South Carolina; died on 31 Jul 1881 in Clarke County, Mississippi; was buried in McLemore Cemetery, Middleton, Clarke County, Mississippi. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 11.  Elizabeth Johnston was born on 15 Feb 1802 in South Carolina; died on 31 Jul 1881 in Clarke County, Mississippi; was buried in McLemore Cemetery, Middleton, Clarke County, Mississippi.

    Notes:

Some researchers show her as the daughter of Caleb Hill and Mary Flynt, and the sister of Nancy Perry Hill, who married Amos's brother, Richard McLemore. Others show her as Elizabeth Hill Johnson or Johnston, with their marriage taking place in Giles County, Tennessee. The Rev. William McLemore shows that according to correspondence and DAR records submitted to him by Joyce Sentell of Mobile, Alabama in 1996, her maiden name was Johnson. In May, 2008, Rev. Bill emailed that "An e-mail from a Ron Henson, 12 Feb 1998 says her surname was Johnston. She was born 15 Feb 1802 and died 31 July 1881. Their children were Albert Gallatin 1825, Richard, Caleb, John b. 1831, Catherine b. 1832, Nancy b. 1838, Elvira and Bettie. Harry McLemore of Jackson, MS, wrote me, "Amos lived in Clarke Co., in 1850. He later moved to Lauderdale Co. near Meridian and one time he lived in Copiah County."

    Notes:

    Married:
They are also shown by some researchers to be the parents of Sara McLemore, born 1819 and married a CARTER and Mary McLemore, born 1822 Lawrence County, Mississippi. This would fit with the 1830 census, which shows that the family had five girls under the age of 15 at that time.

    Children:
    1. Sarah "Sally" McLemore was born about 1820 in Mississippi; and died.
    2. Louisa McLemore was born about 1821 in Mississippi; and died.
    3. Albert Gallatin McLemore was born on 25 Sep 1824 in Mississippi; died on 7 Mar 1874 in Clarke County, Mississippi; was buried in McLemore Cemetery, Middleton, Clarke County, Mississippi.
