Billie Sue Crouch Krause

Billie Sue Crouch Krause, 69, of Huntsville died Sunday, December 31, 2000 at her residence.

Mrs. Krause was born December 1, 1931, in Bronson as a daughter of the late Troy V. and L.C. Crouch. She had resieded in Humble several years before moving to Huntsville and was a member of the Advent Presbyterian Church.

Survivors: husband of 50 years, Calvin L. Krause, to whom she was married March 3, 1950; a daughter and son-in-law Sherry L. and Terry Murray of Huntsville; a son and daughter-in-lawm Troy A. and Linda Krause of Huntsville; a sister Juanita Packard of Okemos, Michigan; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Jan 3. at the chapel of Rosewood Funeral Home in Humble with Pastor Gary Seager and Gene Marion officiating. Interment followed at Rosewood Memorial Park Cemetery.

Troy married L. C. Strickland. L. (daughter of Wesley Van Dee Strickland and Luvenia Walker) was born about 1908 in Sabine County, Texas; died on 6 Feb 1998 in Humble, Harris County, Texas. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

The following obituary appeared in the March 11, 1998 edition of the Sabine County Recorder:

L.C. Strickland Crouch, 90, of Humble died February 6, 1998. Mrs. Crouch was a native and former resident of Sabine County. She was employed by Leonard's Department Store for 18 years and was a charter member of Advent Presbyterian Church in Aldine. She was the daughter of the late Dee and Zilphia (sic) Strickland.

Survivors: daughters, Billie Sue Krause of Huntsville and Juanita Packard of Okemos, MI, seven grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren, and several brothers and sisters.

Funeral services were held February 9 at the chapel of Rosewood Funeral Home in Humble with Gene Marion officiating. Interment followed at the Rosewood Memorial Park.

Notes:

Kay Parker McCary, in her annotated index of the Centerview Cemetery, shows him as a son of John Henry and Elizabeth CROUCH. His double headstone, with Lela Florence Crouch, is inscribed "There is Rest in Heaven." His Texas Death Certificate shows G. (sic) CROUCH and Betty RAY as his parents.

"(Born February 29, 1876) on the banks of the Sabine River in old Sabinetown, where they ran a ferry. It was in hard times of reconstruction days, with lawlessness rampant, and the Stricklands early learned to fight their way through hard times and rough days...When Dee was about 7 years old, his father had trouble with a drunk who pulled him out of bed and started fighting. Following this trouble, John moved his family to Orange. Dee Strickland moved back to Sabine County and married Luvenia Walker. Two of their three children survive: Mrs. Thelma Strickland Lakey of California and Mrs. L.C. Crouch of Houston. The Stricklands moved around to sawmilling, and lived in Rusk when Mrs. Strickland died. Dee came back to Pineland and worked for a month at the mill there; became restless and spent three years in Louisiana before returning to Sabine County, where he married Miss Zilpha Lott. Dee farmed and worked for Temple Lumber Company until his retirement a few years ago. He is the father of ten children by his second marriage. They are Mrs. Gladys Stevens of Houston, J.B. Strickland who is deceased, Mrs. Miriam Amason of Pineland, Robert Strickland of Wyoming, Herbert Strickland of Kirbyville, J.D. Strickland whereabouts unknown at present, A.W. Strickland of Dallas, Mrs. Claudine Hamilton of Beaumont, Mrs. Arlene Fields of Dallas, and Darwin Strickland who is in the US Army stationed in Nebraska. Bob Crouch posted, on the Sabine County, Texas Message Board in July 1997, that he was "Looking for information re: John Henry CROUCH, b. 1833 in GA. Married Elizabeth RAY, b. 1833, Heard Co. GA.

They moved to Ouachita Cnty AR before 1853. John Henry served in Co. H, 19 (Dockery's Arkansas Infantry). He was captured at the fall of Vicksburg.

The family moved to the Milam area of Sabine Co. before 1870.
