Dillon Ferguson

Funeral services for Dillon Ferguson, 80, of Evadale, will be 10:00 am Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at Calvary Apostolic Church in Evadale with interment following in Harper Chapel Cemetery in Hemphill. Visitation will begin at 5:00 pm Tuesday at Farmer Funeral Home. Mr. Ferguson was born November 21, 1932 in Hemphill and went home to be with his Savior March 9, 2013 at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont. Dillon worked for Temple Inland in Pineland and went to work for Temple Inland in Evadale in 1962. He retired in December, 1995. Mr. Ferguson was a faithful member of Calvary Apostolic Church in Evadale. He was a US Army veteran, serving in Europe from October 1954 until October 1957. Mr. Ferguson is preceded in death by his father William 'Bill' Augusta Ferguson, mother Ollie Burleson Ferguson and brother Deas Ferguson. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Betty Inez Jones Ferguson; daughter Betty Jane Immel and husband Jimmie of Silsbee; son Dillon Ray Ferguson and wife Pam of Evadale and daughter Debbie Hall of Evadale. He is also survived by brother Nolan Ferguson and wife Frances of Hemphill; sister Carolyn Nemec and husband Leonard of Houston and sister-in-law Maxine Ferguson of Beaumont; eleven grandchildren, twenty five great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews, whom he loved.

Bob Miller shows that she was the daugher of Benjamin F. Burleson and Dora Butler. Virgie Speights lists her sisters and their families as Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Browing, and son Raymond of Florien, LA; Mr. and Mrs. Clovis Stewart and daughter Joan of Blanchard, Louisiana; and Mr. and Mrs. O. Bryant of Blanchard, Louisiana. William Ferguson, pension application 3543, approved October 12, 1899. Date of pension application July 18, 1899. He is 72 years of age and resided in Oakdale, Texas for 66 years. He is in very bad health and a farmer. He enlisted about June 1, 1863 with Company D, Cooks's Regiment, Heavy Artillery and served until the end of the war. He has two cows valued at $16, one year old yearling value $5, one calf worth $4, one horse worth $20, 10 head of hogs valued at $10. In the past two year he has sold one yearling for $5. V.H. Vickers, County Judge. W.T. Pulliam and J.O. Davidson witnesses. Dr. D.M. Cooper states that the applicant is in poor health with chronic colic and general nervous prostration. William Ferguson served with Milam County Guards, Infantry, 27th Brigade, General E.S.C. Robertson commander; Mount Vernon Grays, active Company, Infantry or Calvary, Titus County, 8th Brigade, TST was 5th Sergt., Company E, Volunteers, 11th Brigade, Captain Nathaniel B. Yelverton, Brigade Colonel L.W. Cooper commanding.

Was shown on the muster roll of Captain J.M. Burroughs Company of the Sabine County Volunteer Infantry, CSA, and was enlisted at Hemphill, Texas by Drury Field for 3 months duty on January 15, 1863.

Augustus married Margaret Ann Low on 25 Oct 1860 in Sabine County, Texas. Margaret (daughter of Isaac Low and Elizabeth Parsons) was born on 6 Nov 1829 in Republic Of Texas; died on 20 Nov 1891 in Sabine County, Texas; was buried in Hemphill City Cemetery, Hemphill, Sabine County, Texas. Notes:

Margaret was the youngest child of Isaac and Elizabeth Low, and she remained unmarried until after her mother died. Presumably she remained at home to care for her. Elizabeth died in July, 1860, when she was 73 years old. Margaret married a few months after this, at the age of 30.
