Funeral services for Erma Hunt, 88, of Hudson, will be held Saturday, February 26, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Brother Billy Knight officiating. Graveside services will follow at 12 Noon Saturday in the Broaddus Cemetery. Mrs. Hunt was born February 25, 1922 in the Rosevine Community, San Augustine County, Texas, to the late Ora May (Griffin) and William Nelson Boyett. She died Thursday, February 24, 2011 at her residence. Mrs. Hunt was a homemaker and a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She loved to play "42 " with her partners. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. Mrs. Hunt had lived in Hudson for the past 51 years, and previously resided in Broaddus for 37 years.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Bruce Bynum of Broaddus; sons and daughters-in-law, Pete and Wanda Hunt of Lufkin, Allan and Kathy Hunt of Hudson; daughter-in-law, Deloris Quine of Lufkin; fifteen grandchildren; thirty-two great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; brothers, Hubert Beard of Huntington, Oscar Beard of Bryan, Paul Beard of Port Arthur, Lon Beard of Anaheim, California, Raymond Beard of Atlanta, Georgia; sister, Edna Machann of Zavalla; aunt, Arlee Griffin of Rosevine; and cousin, Dalton Boyd.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hunt was also preceded in death by her husband, Jim Hunt; son, Jimmy Hunt; and daughters, Shirley Burgay and Teresa Hunt. Pallbearers will be Carey McMullen, James Hunt, Kenneth Hunt, Daniel Bynum, Steve Baker and Ritchie Segura. Honorary pallbearers will be Ryan Andrews, James Thomas and Richard Andrews. In her annotated transcription of the Gravel Hill Cemetery, Kay Parker McCary shows that Wyatt BOYETT (1905-1906) was a son of Robert Edgar Boyett and Clarissa Conn. He is more likely a son of John Oliver Boyett and Mattie Conn. Robert Edgar and Clarissa had only one chidl that died prior to 1910, his name was Robert Goodrich. However, the 1910 census showed that Mattie Conn Boyett had two children that died prior to that date. Zenas, 1898-1900, and UNKNOWN. It is very likely that this second child was Wyatt.

James married Emily Edna White on 5 Jun 1890 in Sabine County, Texas. Emily (daughter of John Ragan White and Jemimah Amazia Vardeman) was born about 1868 in Brookeland, Sabine County, Texas; died about 1965 in Hemphill, Sabine County, Texas. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Notes:

Kay Parker McCary, in her annotated transcription of the Gravel Hill Cemetery, states that he was the son of Gipson Boyett and Eliz Bateman, and a twin to Emerantha Boyett Isom. She was born on the September 24 and he was born on September 25.

At the time of the 1850 Federal census, an 18 year old Henry Conn, born in Mississippi and working as a laborer, was living in the home of Farrish and Martha Kendrick of Copiah County, Mississippi.

Did she marry second a DICKERSON? The death certificate of daughter Martha Conn Boyett lists her mother as Clarrisa Dickerson. She is also shown as Clarissa (Dickerson) CONN on the FindAGrave memorial for Martha Conn Boyett.

FindAGrave instead lists her date of death as 30 Jan 1902, but there is not a photo of the tombstone to verify this earlier date.

In a 1966 article about the Golden Wedding anniversary of Onie Griffin and Imboden Boyd, Virgie Speights wrote that Onie's great grandfather was W. H. Griffin, who came as a boy of 17 years with the Boyd family to Texas (circa 1835).
