Mrs. Emmie Moore Mason, 75, 609 Oak St. NE, died last night about 7:30.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Reid Sherard, Decatur; Mrs. Robert Natkin, Mount Pleasant, Texas; one son, Jack Mason, Mobile; two sisters, Mrs. Eula Everhart, South Carolina; Mrs. Sarah Miller, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

The body will remain at Guntharp Funeral home until 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at which time it will be taken to the First Methodist Church to lie in state until 10:30 at which time services will be conducted by the Rev. Ford McDonald.

Burial will be in Decatur Cemetery with Guntharp directing.

Pallbearers will be Sam Malone Jr, Reeder Banks, Noble E. Russell, Frank Stone, Leo Wright, Paul Robinson.

George (son of George Wharton Mason and Anna Augusta "Gussie" Booth) was born on 28 Feb 1883 in Athens, Clarke County, Georgia; died on 10 Jul 1963 in Decatur, Morgan County, Alabama; was buried in Decatur City Cemetery, Decatur, Morgan County, Alabama. 2. John "Jack" Rucker Mason was born in Aug 1913 in Georgia; and died.

Charles married Harriet Gertrude Deadwyler on 1 Apr 1884 in Maysville, Jackson County, Georgia. Harriet (daughter of George Eberhart Deadwyler and Mary Pricilla Strickland) was born on 1 Jun 1865 in Jackson County, Georgia; died on 14 Jan 1929 in Athens, Clarke County, Georgia. George married Mary Pricilla Strickland on 22 Feb 1860 in Georgia. Mary (daughter of Madison Strickland and Harriet Allan) was born on 21 Aug 1841 in Maysville, Jackson County, Georgia; died on 13 Sep 1915 in Maysville, Jackson County, Georgia. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Marianne Matkin of Mt. Pleasant, Texas writes that:

"In the 1850 Jackson Co, Georgia census, page 17 we find Madison Strickland age 38 farmer worth $4,000 born Georgia wife Harriet age 38, Daniel W. age 14, Mary P age 9, Emily I age 4, all born Georgia.

In the Jackson Co, Georgia 1860 census, page 64 or 221 we find Madison Strickland 47 farmer worth $19,000, Harriet age 48, Mary age 19, George E. Dedwley age 24 farm laborer worth $5,000, Emily I Dedwley 15 all born Georgia. There are some errors here: it shows Madison and Harriet married within the year, but it was George E. Deadwyler and Mary who were married on 22 Feb 1860. Also, Emily I was not a Deadwyler but a Strickland.

The 1870 Jackson Co, Georgia census page 402 gives us Madison Strickland age 55 farmer worth $9,500 born Georgia, wife Harriet age 56, born Georgia with a black cook.

In the 1880 Jackson County, GA census page 643, Millers District we find Madison Strickland age 67, farming born Georgia, parents born North Carolina. Wife Harriett age 68 keeping house born Georgia. Father born London, England (A big surprise, no wonder I haven't been able to find him in the Revolution), mother born Georgia."

Marianne also has a copy of the will of Madison Strickland Jackson Co, GA dated 25 July 1877, proved 6 October 1890.

Madison married Harriet Allan on 13 Nov 1834 in Habersham County, Georgia. Harriet (daughter of James Allan and Mary Strickland) was born on 24 Aug 1811 in Georgia; died on 17 Jan 1895 in Jackson County, Georgia. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
