Services for Mary Gilley, 63, of Jasper were held Saturday, August 22, 2009 at Tanglewood Baptist Church in Jasper with burial following at Zion Hill Cemetery.

Mary died Monday, August 17, 2009 in Jasper. A native of Jasper County, she was a longtime resident of Harrisburg Community. A 1964 graduate of Jasper High School and Chenier Business College, she worked for many years in Education Administration. She was an active member of Tanglewood Baptist Church and was Vice President of The East End Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening in her yard, camping & traveling. She loved her family especially her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her beloved son Bennis Wayne Gilley.

Survivors include her mother, Gladys Bradshaw of Jasper, her husband of 33 years Lawrence "Larry" Gilley of Harrisburg, son , Michael Dean Gilley of Beaumont, two daughters, Holly Murphy of Lufkin, and Melody Rutledge of Ballinger, two brothers, Spencer Ray Bradshaw and Arthur Dean Bradshaw both of Jasper, sister, Bobbie Kay Hancock of Jasper, seven grandchildren, Devon, Ashley, Grace, Carson, Emma, Wyatt & Mason. She is also survived by a host of other family & friends.

Woodrow Gilley

B.W. "Woodrow" Gilley, 81, of Kirbyville died Monday, Aug. 14, 1995, at a Jasper hospital. Gilley was a native of Newton County, and had lived in the Kirbyville area several years. He was a retired building contractor.

Survivors: wife, Donna GILLEY of Kirbyville; a daughter Nelda STRICKLAND of Jasper; a son Lawrence GILLEY of Jasper; stepdaughters, Madena COCHRAN of Vidor and Helen CLARK of Mauriceville; step-sons Mack ROSE of Buna, Lynn R. ROSE of Jasper, and Dan A. ROSE of Temple; sisters, Evie POLLOCK of Newton and Mauline SEGURA of New Iberia, Louisiana; and brothers D.H. GILLEY of Newton, Ennis GILLEY of Hemphill, and Denson GILLEY of Jasper.

Funeral Services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel of Stringer Funeral Home in Kirbyville. Interment followed at Zion Hill Cemetery near Jasper.

Bennis married Elsie Fay McLemore on 6 May 1934 in Jasper County, Texas. Elsie (daughter of Ivy Augustus McLemore and Kate Elizabeth Sims) was born on 20 Dec 1911 in Jasper County, Texas; died on 4 Mar 1992 in Jasper County, Texas; was buried in Zion Hill Cemetery, Jasper, Jasper County, Texas. Ivy married Kate Elizabeth Sims on 24 Apr 1907 in Jasper County, Texas. Kate (daughter of Rev. Alfred Cuthbert Sims and Francis Amanda Allen) was born in Dec 1893 in Jasper County, Texas; died on 28 Feb 1978 in Jasper County, Texas; was buried in Zion Hill Cemetery, Jasper, Jasper County, Texas.
