    Married:
At the time of the 1880 Census, William Jasper Boyett was living with his younger brother, John Wesley, in Newton. He was shown as married, but no wife or children were listed in the home with him.Martha Boyett, listed as "widowed" was living in Jasper with daughters Naomi and Elizabeth, and working as an "in house maid."

    Children:
    1. Naoma Boyett was born on 29 Jan 1876 in Jasper County, Texas; died on 7 Aug 1925 in Beaumont, Jefferson County, Texas.

    4. 3. Dona "Donie" Boyett was born on 8 Sep 1887 in Jasper County, Texas; died on 28 Aug 1947 in Beaumont, Jefferson County, Texas; was buried in Davis Cemetery, Beulah Springs, Jasper County, Texas.

Generation: 4

  1. 8.  Sion Jones was born in 1825 in Pulaski County, Georgia (son of Matthew Jones and Elizabeth Wester); died on 14 Aug 1864 in Georgia; was buried in Atlanta, Fulton County, Georgia.

    Notes:

Per the article entitled LOCKHART ADDS TO HAWTHORN HISTORY "Sion Jones (was the) son of Matthew Jones and grandson of Robert....He served in Campbell's County CSA which patrolled the coast of Florida and also served in Atlanta. Sion died in August 1864, leaving Elizabeth with seven children. She was 36 years old. She moved to Texas in 1868....The Morgans and Jones's are both Welsh." In a subsequent letter to Melinda Strong, Carolyn Powell Lockhart adds that Sion Jones had died in the Battle of Atlanta. Bonnie Jones notes that he actually died of an illness contracted during the fighting of the Civil War.

Sion married Elizabeth Morgan on 3 Feb 1853 in Decatur County, Georgia. Elizabeth (daughter of Daniel Morgan and Mary ???) was born on 31 Dec 1830 in North Carolina; died on 13 Dec 1902 in Kirbyville, Jasper County, Texas; was buried in Magnolia Springs Cemetery, Magnolia Springs, Jasper County, Texas. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 9.  Elizabeth Morgan was born on 31 Dec 1830 in North Carolina (daughter of Daniel Morgan and Mary ???); died on 13 Dec 1902 in Kirbyville, Jasper County, Texas; was buried in Magnolia Springs Cemetery, Magnolia Springs, Jasper County, Texas.

    Notes:

Said by some to have been born in Surry County, NC, but no proof cited. This seems unlikely as the family was listed in Sampson County as of the 1830 census.

Carolyn Lockhart wrote that after the death of Sion Jones in Georgia "Elizabeth sold her land in Decatur County (ca 1868) and came to Texas. She and [her widowed sister] Dorcas Lee had about 9 children with them. Someone met them in Galveston and it was the first time she had ever seen an iron cook stove. She instructed her kids not to mention their Indian ancestry. She herself never mentioned it even though she always wore fringes on her dresses to remind her own self of her heritage. She was 61 when she died, never remarried and never filed a pension from Sion Jones CSA record."

In a letter from Carolyn Lockhart, she states that Elizabeth died in the home of her oldest son, Newton B. Jones. Like the Morgan's, the Jones family were also of Welsh ancestry. The Hawthorne family were neighbors in Georgia and also in Jasper County.

Ruby Boyett showed she died in 1897, but this can not be correct as (1) she had a daughter born in 1899 (2) she can be found on the 1900 census with her husband and children and (3) her tombstone is said to be inscribed 13 Dec 1902.

  5. 12.  Noah Boyett was born on 18 Nov 1830 in Alabama (son of Ethel Dred Boyett and Sarah Ann Saucer); died on 30 May 1897 in Erin, Jasper County, Texas.

    Notes:

Copied from the website of Ruby Boyett Burkett:

"In the end, Grand-father Noah left everything he owned to his younger son, James Noah. The copies of the legal papers we have, plainly state, in a will written on May 15, 1897:

First, it is my will that all of my just debts and funeral expenses be paid as soon as convenient after my death.

Second, it is my will that the said J. N. Boyett, my son, have all my interest in the homestead of one hundred and four acres of land, part of the N. Kelley and part of the A. C. Parmer , said interest to include all the improvements, such as houses, barns etc. After checking birth and death dates, I now know that James Noah was 23 years old when his father willed him all his property and that he was 39 years old when he died so he owned the place about 16 years, depending on whether he sold it or his wife sold it after his death.

I hereby appoint my brother L. B. Boyett executor of this my last will and it is further my will that no action be taken in the probate court except proof of this will, and filing an inventory of this the property, and no bond be required of my executor. In the testimony of all which I sign my name hereto in the presence of M. Morgan and William Turner.

So this will was written on May 15, 1897 and fifteen days later, on May 30, 1897, Grand-father Noah Boyett, passed from this earth and was buried beside his beloved wife, Susan, there beside their "Old Boyett Homestead" in Erin, Jasper Co., Texas, where they had lived, loved and reared their large family. They would never know that only one more of their children would be buried there beside them in the quiet of the beautiful countryside they loved so much---the place where they had experienced happy time, times of sorrow, times of loneliness and all the spectrum of emotions, which come to a married couple as they struggle through a lifetime of rearing a family. This pioneering couple also experienced the dreaded separation couples have feared down through the ages? that of war time. Noah was called away to serve in the Civil War. He had to leave his wife and children but fortunately, lived to return home to them. Many others, from that area of Jasper Co., were not as fortunate. They were buried in far away places, never to return to their families."
