Benkelman, Charles
Benkelman, Charles
A photo from the collection of Louisa Benkelman Schwegler, labeled Charles Benkelman. Based on the age of this photo, this is likely of her cousin Charles Benkelman (born 1866) of Denver, Colorado, the son of her Uncle George. It is possible, however, that it might instead by of her nephew Charles Adam Benkelman (born 1888), the son of her brother George Adam. Both families were ranchers and lived near Denver, Colorado.

PLEASE CONTACT US IF YOU CAN VERIFY WHICH CHARLES BENKELMAN THIS IS A PHOTO OF.

As Dorus had graduated several years earlier, it appears this was an annual event at the High School, and this particular photo was taken at one of the earlier festivities. Dorus was a graduate of the Cass City High School class of 1912, and E.B. Schwaderer graduated in 1913.

Benkelman, Samuel with his wife, Mary (Striffler), Berry Picking, July 1938
This photo of Samuel Benkelman and his wife Mary was taken a few years prior to Sam's death. It was labeled, apparently in error, "Sam (80 yrs) and Lydia (77 yrs) Benkelman berry picking, July 1938" Lydia was Sam's first wife, and predeceased him by many years.

Benkelman, Unknown
Thought by Nancy Schwaderer, a childhood friend, to be a photo of young Bill Benkelman.Lorraine Smith Benkelman, the wife of Bill's brother, does not agree. She suggested it might instead be Alvin Benkelman. However, neither Alvin Benkelman nor his sister Ann Scott Pritchard, recognize him. PLEASE HELP US POSTIVELY IDENTIFY THIS PHOTO.

Benkelman, Ward William ca 1920's (left)
Simply labeled "Fred and Ward". Appears to have been taken in the early 1920's in or around the Cass City area, after a hunting expedition? Most likely his uncle, Benjamin Frederick Benkelman, or possibly a cousin, Glen Frederick Benkelman? Or perhaps the Fred (left) is Frederick Maier, Ward's first cousin on his mothers side of the family?

HELP US POSITIVELY IDENTIFY FRED.

Benkelman, William Frederick ca 1870's (Thought to be)
This was in a group of tintypes originally belonging to Louisa Benkelman Schwegler. These tintypes appear to be of Louisa and her brothers, all children of Adam and Catherine Benkelman of Cass City. Alvin Benkelman, Jr., a great grandson of of Adam and Catherine, believes this to be a photo of their son William Frederick. This is based on his comparison to other family and group photos owned and labeled by his late father, Alvin Benkelman Sr. However, based on Marjory Schwegler Battel's identificaton of the various Benkelman sons from a group photo taken around the same time period, it is possible that this might instead be Will's younger brother, Ben.
