  • Notes  Married:
    • Melba Gene McLemore thought that Mariah married twice, to Martin Van Buren Hollis and to Charles Pickney Campbell.

Lisa Thigpen, a descendant, writes that "Mariah McLemore was marrried only once, to Charles Pinckney Campbell, and they are buried next to each other. They were married Oct. 6, 1861. Possibly her sister, Martha, was married to a Hollis man or it was someone totally different (Maria Lemon, as one said). My ggrandfather, William Pinckney Campbell, was their son. I don't have the list of other siblings in front of me now. My grandmother was the daughter of William and she lived to be 98 and remembered stories about her grandmother (Mariah).

The dates don't show clearly on the headstones, but Charles was born in 1830 or 1831 and died in 1906. Mariah was born in 1835 and died in 1901 or 1902. William P. was born in 1873 and died in 1954. Charles was a Civil War veteran and has a flag on his grave. Charles' father was Hiram Campbell who moved to Alabama from Kentucky. None of the Campbells that I know have been able to find out who Hiram's father was. I will look for McLemores in the cemetary when I go back."

Lisa added that David Yielding has posts on the Campbell forum and he is her second cousin and lives near her. Charlie Clay Campbell is also her second cousin and is on the forum and has done a lot of genealogy about Campbells/McLemores. He lives in London.
